They don't have weekly shows, you're gonna have to pick and choose what you want to watch from that. But skipping straight up to the next WK is a bit extreme.

This is where cagematch is helpful. Just make sure to click the "card" button on the right instead of the name of the show, so that you don't get spoiled on the results.

As you can see, there's plenty of shows above Wrestle Kingdom, and some of them are important.

Some years, New Year Dash can be really interesting, but I remember that 2017 wasn't like that, so that's an easy skip.

Judging by the scores, NJPW Presents CMLL Fantastica Mania 2017 - Tag 7 is a good show to check out if you just want to check out random matches.

But the list of the next truly important shows are:
-NJPW The New Beginning In Sapporo 2017
-NJPW The New Beginning In Osaka 2017
-NJPW 45th Anniversary Show
-New Japan Cup (Maybe just the finals, but there's probably some interesting matches worth looking for before that)
-Sakura Genesis 2017 (If you skip everything else, don't skip this show)

NJPW revolves around events and shows leading to the events, there is no weekly show, it's sports presentation based.

For example the last two shows were "road to New Beginning in Osaka" and the next show is the actual New Beginning in Osaka event. Important things and great matches can still happen on road to shows though they typically focus on building towards the event, they'd be your rough equivalent of a weekly show.

Cobb is becoming injury prone but no one really talks about it. He’s had different but constant injuries going back to pre-G1 last year, and has worked less overall because of it. Dude is not that old, but I think being an athlete at his size for 20+ years is starting to wear him down.

Zack will go head-to-head with Bryan Danielson (AEW) at the Osaka event on November 11. Zack is eager to fight in the big match to decide the "world's best technical wrestler.

New Japan has seen the departure of Okada Kazuchika and Will Osprey, who have reigned at the top of the organization. As the company enters a transitional period, Zack has been named the new leader.

With the launch of AEW in 2019 in addition to WWE, the world's largest organization, the number of top wrestlers who have been active in Japan moving their main venue to the United States has increased dramatically. Zack commented on this, "It is not uncommon for a soccer player to want to move to a new environment, like moving from England's Premier League to Spain's Liga Española. The U.S. is the world's largest economy and a leader in the wrestling world. It's not strange for wrestlers to want to go there. It always happens. It's very normal. It's like an actor wanting to go to Hollywood.

Zack further pointed out, "The difference between the Japanese and U.S. wrestling cultures is that the U.S. is primarily a TV show, while Japan is a sports company that focuses on tournaments. So any wrestler who wants to be a TV wrestler will always want to be in the US. But we (Japanese pro wrestling) have to keep the events as true to the sport as possible. And we must also use non-wrestling TV programs to create new stars," he theorized.

Comparing the current WWE and AEW to New Japan's size, it is undeniable that they have been watered down. However, Zack said, "What we have to do in New Japan is reaffirm that what we are doing is the best we can do, and of course the New Japan of 2024 should look and feel more modern than the New Japan of 1972, but it should not stray completely from its roots. It devolves into lunacy when the ring starts being taken apart, I can appreciate how hard they committed to doing everything in the book.

Though it was weird how far it all went and then it became a standard slow farewell for Ospreay at the end. Will is catatonic at the end of the match and then he's walking out after a long speech, kind of deflated the War Dogs victory and whatever the stakes were, like it was the ending of just a standard match.
