The ending of the main event was pure ancient mythology, and it was brilliant. Cody enters in a skeleton mask because he’s fighting not just for himself, but for departed ancestors and the “wrestling gods” like his father, who helped build the industry in less fortunate times for the business. He’s channeling their power because he’s up against impossible odds.
His friends come out to help, but they’re still outnumbered and overpowered by the army he’s up against. He is barely holding on, when suddenly the “warriors of old” start appearing - guys who have been out of the business for years.
At the end his chief enemy, the final boss, the one who literally pinned him the day before, is still standing tall, who comes to Cody’s aid but LITERALLY THE DEAD, the physical manifestation of Cody’s departed ancestors and “wrestling gods.”
