Real wrestling is extremely boring to watch, confusing as a spectator to keep track of who's winning, not an easy sport to describe over radio, and takes forever. Boxing, especially in the 1910s and 20s when more or less 100% of wrestling became fixed, was two dudes just throwing bombs at each other until one of them couldn't walk

there is a lot of match fixing in boxing, but you can't "work" someone getting hit in the head repeatedly in a way that preserves them for working constant shows, often multiple times a week. the frequency is the point of worked wrestling
and pro rasslin's in-ring action is sort of an amalgam of various tropes from combat sports and movies so "worked" boxing would be completely redundant when pro rasslers can do worked strikes on top of all sorts of other wacky shit that makes matches entertaining

There's more action in boxing so it was easier to keep the public entertained without going full circus. Greco-Roman wrestling matches can go on for hours, consist of mostly two men grabbing each other on the ground, and last up to 5 hours.
