Quackenbush and his friends being cancelled during #MeToo was the big thing. There was no way that promotion could run after that.

Prior to that, the Delorean/Time Travel angle killed the company. The company was the hottest it ever was up until the night that angle paid off. Then the company stopped running for a year. The fans and interest never came back.

I also think NXT becoming a super indy and NJPW expanding into the West also helped the promotion lose interest.

Quack got too up his own ass over the praise he got for the BDK storyline and the way it had come about as the culmination of a buch of other stories going back years. Then he got is dick too into Saturyne's snatch which led to a divorce and him having to put the promotion on hold until it was settled since it was co-owned by his wife. He decided to make a storyline for it that could have been cool but after a big debut the Flood just kind of petered out into nothing and then it limped along for a few years until the #MeToo bandwagoning.

Chikara at its peak in the BDK era was one of the top indies. The only ones that were bigger were ROH, CZW and maybe PWG. I think they were one of the first to embrace livestreaming as well while everyone else remained wedded to DVDs to the detriment of promotions like PWG and Shimmer who maintained it long after it had become obsolete and died because of it... well and being cannibalized by AEW in PWG's case.

They weren't going to top the BDK, I don't think any promotion has had a single storyline that was able to create stakes for so many matches throughout the card.
But ultimately it was the fake shut down. I think they were trying to create an ARG so Quack wouldn't lose CHIKARA in his divorce, but indie promotions go under all the time and wrestling fans just want to watch wrestling. Maybe it could work now that every fan has their own head cannon in order to justify watching all this modern crap.
I can't even remember why shut it down for real, I wanna say it's because Quack didn't do anything about Chris Hero being mean to someone in 2003.

Say what you will about lame lazy fat Eddie Kingston, he was part of one of the greatest overarching stories in all of wrestling, when he caused Archibald Peck to travel through time with Kingston's Backfist to the Future finisher.
The whole Archibald Peck saga is the best thing Chikara ever did.

It's pretty wild how wrong indie fans were. It was taken as a given if any indie guys were going to make it, it would have to be Colt Cabana and Chris Hero cause they were the tall guys.
Danielson and Punk would most definitely never been given a chance.
But back to reality, even Aries, Strong, shit even Jack Evans is probably more famous than Chris Hero.

>May 27, 2007 - Mike Quackenbush defeated longtime rival Chris Hero in a match two years in the making with a new submission maneuver called the Chikara Special. Quackenbush announced that since he knew Hero would never be able to break the hold, he would teach it and the counter to it to all tecnicos on the Chikara roster
>November 11, 2007 - Chris Hero defeats Equinox in a mask vs. hair match. During the match Equinox managed to lock in the Chikara Special, only for Hero to counter out of it and apply the move himself to force Equinox to tap out.
>April 2008 - Tim Donst is dropped on his head and follows UltraMantis Black to the back. It is revealed that Donst had lost his memory and had been convinced by UltraMantis that he was a true member of the Order.
>June 14, 2008 - Mike Quackenbush and Shane Storm pick up a victory and becoming contenders for the tag titles. Donst made his way to ringside and whispered something to Mike Quackenbush, which led him to attack Storm after winning the match. It was revealed that Donst's stint with the Order had been a setup between him and Quackenbush to infiltrate the rudo faction to discover who in the tecnicos had revealed the counter to the Chikara Special, which turned out to be Storm (who had been on a losing streak and sold the move in order for UMB to help him get back to his winning ways).

(sidenote: According to legend, once the Eye is used, it must be given away, or the user would face bad luck and tragedy. However, UltraMantis didn't believe this and refused to let go of the Eye.)

(sidenote: The arrival of a Carpenter Ant, and a robotic-looking wrestler called Vokoder, had in fact been foretold in the pages of CHIKARA's comic book)

Hero fucked that up partially while WWE and TNA waited too long on him. Cabana I thought was destined to be a midcard heel for like 10 years but it never worked out. Punk was always going to make it, a bunch of people hated him but he also had a bunch of people in high places that liked him, plus he's always been good at sucking up the bookers ass. He was built for WWE politics. Danielson is somewhat similar just in a more sly way.

None of it is particularly good. It's mostly people from the later years of chikara and newer wrestlers that trained at the factory before it moved. It's typical Indy shit, not the worst, but nothing special.

The Rory thing is weird since the accusation was that he was showing people CP and bestiality and Quack said they turned everything over to the police but nothing ever came of it. I'm honestly surprised that WWE never hired him as a full time trainer. I'd guess because he probably didn't want to close down Chikara and the WrestleFactory and the #MeToo bandwagon shit trashed his reputation enough that WWE will never touch him even though he'd probably do well training and helping to book for Shawn's NXT since it's very New Generation in parts and Quack is a big New Generation mark.

There was also a rumor that Quack and a lot of the trainers post-Hero would train newer wrestlers to be just good enough for the Chikara style but not good enough for other promotions. Apparently Quack was upset about talent leaving for other promotions and “ruining his storylines” so he’d make sure talent couldn’t find anywhere else to go besides him.
