People see someone say "this is for the smart fans" or something like that and they adopt the piece of media as their identity, find an online community to talk about it and that becomes their life. Anything negative about it and they sperg out. It's like KPop girls obsessing over one band, or anime geeks who think HxH is some genius masterpiece. They're fucking retards with no interests or knowledge of anything and they spend all their time talking about one piece of media and watching online theory videos about that one piece of media.
It's like finding a person who has never read a book, never watched a movie, never heard a song and only ever watched Naruto and YouTubers talking about Naruto. There's no frame of reference, there's no knowledge of the media it derived from or compares to. There's no life experience to relate the morals of the narrative to. It's just blind consumption for the sake of identity to fit into a weird online community of losers.
