While speaking to Wrestle Radio Australia, Adam Copeland revealed his frustration with how fans analyze wrestling too much instead of just enjoying it and called them out for the same. He said he tries not to focus on all the criticism and just have fun with it.
Copeland thinks wrestling has changed, with people picking apart every detail and rating things instead of simply watching for entertainment. He remembered how when he went to wrestling shows, it was all about having a good time and not overthinking everything.
>“I really have tried not to get too bogged down in any, you know, aspects of it and just enjoy the fact that wrestling is supposed to be fun. You know, it’s gone to this place of micro-analyzing, pulling everything apart, and then rating things. And it’s like—man, when I went to wrestling shows, it was just to have fun.”
Using the recent discourse surrounding Jey Uso’s Royal Rumble win as an example, Copeland wondered why fans were complaining when the crowd at the show clearly loved it. He said some people will always find something to complain about, maybe because they’re unhappy in their own lives.
In the end, The Rated R Superstar told fans to relax and enjoy wrestling. He questioned why it had become something people judge like an Olympic competition instead of just having fun.
>“Yeah, it’s like the whole discourse recently with Jey Uso. I was like, ‘I don’t know, the crowd really seemed to like it—why are you complaining?’ There’s always going to be people who just complain to complain. Yeah, because they’re probably not happy in their own lives—broad strokes there, but generally speaking.
>And it’s like—just have fun. Just have fun! When did it become this thing where we need to judge it like the Olympics?”
