It's wrestling. Stipulation matches where one guy leaves forever or can't ever challenge again have been done forever and get worked around when it becomes necessary. They could have overturned that stip at any time yet, they chose to use it as an excuse to leave the guy twisting in the wind without a contract. AEW fucked up and let a top of the card talent walk for no good reason and they nobody to replace him that is near his level.

The fans rejected Cody’s idea of a babyface and he put himself in the midcard by choice
