Actual non meme answer: majority of AEW hardcores were WWE partisans 10 years ago and actively participated in attacking and exaggerating the negatives of that company to the point where many of the hardcore fanbase felt TNA was a joke no matter how well they improved.

After they moved to AEW, these same fans are now utterly petrified that the same thing could happen to AEW, IN fact you even see some of the same bad faith arguments being made against AEW too, but it's kind of funny from a TNA fan perspective to see them get a taste of their own medicine.

On a related note, ever since it became clear that AEW wouldn't be beating WWE in the ratings anytime soon, there's been a noticeable uptick in the amount of anti-Impact posts from AEW hardcores. It's almost as if they realise that WWE is still the big dog, so they can feel better about themselves by punching down instead.

Hating WWE is their entire life and has been ever since the Ruthless Aggression era. AEW united all the smarks under one banner and represents their final chance to stick it to WWE. Once AEW goes, there will be no other promotion where they can hate WWE, still have their 'sports-based presentation', still feel intelligent because of all the nudge-nudge-wink-wink smark-catering dirtsheet shit AEW does. I am a wwe fan but think about it this way. If you enjoyed a show and heard about backstage drama, there is always a chance that ends for the worse. No, I don't think AEW will end over this, but it could end with someone leaving which could be less than ideal for some fans. That and WB killing a bunch of stuff lately means there is always a chance something happens. Again, AEW is likely not going anywhere but it is somewhat reasonable to see where fan of the product are coming from.

Then when Jericho went to New Japan in 2017, they started to pretend they were hardcore New Japan fans who watched for years and proceeded to shit up the New Japan fanbase with their Elite bullshit and ruined all talk about it because if it didn't involve the Bullet Club, they weren't interested in it.
