I think all 3 of them are closer to retiring than anyone realizes. The Bucks are in their mid to late 30's and Kenny is nearing 40. The way they wrestle breaks you down fast. I don't see any of them wrestling another 4-5 years tops.

Kenny is a brilliant main eventer in a japanese environment. Looking beyond the obviously stellar technical and athletic ability, his main problem lies with character work and interacting with the crowds. Like everyone says, he's just too goofy and sardonic, as if he was doing a main event heel run ironically ; a good illustration of that being his off-pitch emotivity during the matches. It's just not something that you could take seriously at all, and the general direction of his "character" was god awful. If we consider a match to be a story, then the explicit point of every recent chapter in the kenny omega book became about how good the story itself is presented and not much else, and honestly I genuinely believe that he was too overwhelmed with running the company and too physically banged up to be as invested in his opponents as he was elsewhere. Going back to the japanese point, the walls between kayfabe and shoot are merged into each other in a unique and peculiar way where you were able to work and get away with a whole lot more while keeping the crowd with you, because their investment as fans hits a number of different internal spots than it does in north america. And this latter points directly affecting the direction of what is produced, therefore changing how you approach your work, so to say the least, the japs can buy into your over the top presentation if it still delivers in terms of passion and effort. Not to mention is the gigantic difference in the format.
I don't think Kenny properly wrapped his head around that transition, which could be because of Twitter clouding his vision on what was really coming through to a national tv audience. His initial reputation in and from japan was directly related to his character, whereas his reputation with the smarky PWG-adjacent crowd is built on the "performance". Even when Kenny wrestled, say, Tenzan, he wrestled with the character intending to win. If it were AEW, it would have turned ironic.

As for the bucks, well, they are ding dong diddly indie wrestlers, but fantastic at making money for themselves without graduating from indiedom. I don't feel the need to go on much further about them individually, as that description encapsulats all that they represent. I will say however, that when paired up with Kenny, they enable some of the more reprehensible aspects of the indy mindset in general. For as bad as the "tribute act" tendencies that they publicly knocked are, turning your act's essence into constantly self-referential meta ironic work might be worse. BTE should not be the blueprint for your big multi million dollar operation, but you know, self marks yadda yadda.

The Bucks always deliver when they need to, the problem is all the times when they're just having a match. They need to save more for PPV and major TV events and pick like one of their spots for a standard match. People say the Bucks do the same match all the time, I disagree, but I think everyone would agree that if you only got to see a "Bucks match" once every few months it'd be a lot more fresh when you did see one. And the Lucha Bros bring out their worst/best tendencies depending on if it's in that big show environment where it's good, or if it's "We're doing a match on TV" where it's not good.

Kenny is based, but we have to wait and see how much he's holding back to wow on his first major singles match at WK to say anything about where to go from here imo.

Much of the same. I think Kenny is at his best when he has creative freedom but not creative control, AKA on an expanding leash. Unfortunately Tony has been pretty shit with his booking for the past year so I doubt Omega would be able to get to the level of dimes that he was as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion for example.
The Bucks probably had potential at one point but it's been permanently lost due to how much of complete faggots they are. Unlike corny larpers here I usually like the bucks. They should never be faces and change their style somewhat. Spotfests are fun, but the overly choreographed shit is not. Also, Matt should either stop """acting""" so much or hire an acting coach. Nick's fine in that regard.

The commentary in AEW is not as good at getting people over as other companies. Kevin Kelly knew exactly how to sell the V-Trigger and the OWA to the audience and put his devastating power over. Kenny's matches are always slightly lacklustre when it's goofballs like Schiavone going "uhhh... wow.... look at that!"

You never really fully heal, also Kenny's prime in NJPW was huge 60 minute matches in the main event of PPVs with high stakes. The structure of AEW's business is doing lots of TV shows with commercials which are inherently less epic and which restricts him to 4 possible PPV main events a year. He has tried his best in this format given his injuries IMO, but I do agree it's a mere shadow of his NJPW self.

Let's be honest, between the skating run, weird promos and the love for these circus stuntmen there is no chance he could make it in the WWE or that style of wrestling.
They've made it pretty clear that they are set in their ways in this point of their careers. This style of matches, comedy spots, and spotmonkeying is what they do and they will do so till their body gives up.
They are literally would need a year in NXT to get to the place they'd need to be to be able to go against top guys in a slower style. One of the bucks is pushing 40, how likely they are willing to go through that.
It's not like they can't work a traditional match at all. I've said it many times, that match with Hardys where Jeff fucked up and they had to cut spots and work around Matts limitations had me going like wow! But they won't..
Kenny is pretty fucking good when doing solo matches. I'd gladly watch that Christian v Kenny match again.
They had amble time to reinvent their gimmick after 'All time Out' but they came back doubling down just to give a middle finger.

The only reason why Nick looks good is because he's 4 years younger. They might be able to keep this up if they start juicing. That's the only reason Mysterio can wrestle like he does, but even then, he has to to take a lot of time off. It's also why CM Punk is always injured. Straight edge sounds cool in your 20s, but near the end of your 30s it starts to make less sense and you start to understand why Hogan could wrestle in his 50s. I give Matt another 2 years, Nick another 6. Which is sadly enough time for them to both dismantle AEW.

Vince told many times that they compete not with other promotions (although it was bullshit) but with other shows and even other forms of entertainment. Who needs to watch wrestling when they have a new Call of Duty to waste their evening in? New trendy N*tflix show? Favorite twitch thot? Unshitposted threads on a yakut snow-drawing internet forum? This is the problem to solve for wrestling to draw at least 3 milly regularly.

Think of how much goodwill they had at the start of aew, of all the disgruntled fans that were rejoicing for a new alternative. They weren't meant to gain new wrestling fans but to get back the lapsed crowd that really wanted to see something good. Dynamite has killed all of its momentum during these last two years, and while the majority of the blame falls on the head booker, the main eventers with creative control that are also participating in putting together the vision of the show are at fault as well. They chose to spin their wheels in familiar territory instead of trying to go forward, which despite understanding since they got this far with a loyal fanbase still leaves me disappointed. Heck, regardless of the numbers, their task should be to maintain a high quality show and maximize the potential of pro wrestling in tv with unlimited money, yet here we are.

The Bucks are dimeless and bring nothing to the table. Even the talent that they bring on is mostly dimeless shitters and bloats the roster for no appreciable gain. Unironically Jelly Nutella did more to bring in American indie talent than the Bucks themselves did.
