UK live event promotion is in my wheelhouse, so maybe I can add some stuff in here.
August 27th is during the start of the PL season but also a Bank Holiday weekend right after people are paid. Although Brexit has hurt travel a little, London is still one of the worlds most accessible cities. Not just by plane either, you can drive to London from anywhere from the Med to China.
The hiring cost of a late August Wembley is huge. This is very much a financial gamble.
Although the AEW viewership is low on UKTV, that isn't really relevant. Most of the demo who consume AEW will be using social media to keep up with stories and clips.
With staging and lighting, they'll be looking closer to a 80k attendance limit. Obviously they will start low and open more as the demand increases.
Frankly, although this is a financial gamble for the company, I don't think its as dangerous as others believe in terms of attendances. Its the right timing and the right city to pull this off and there's a very good chance that they will sell out.
Prestige events which an AEW Europe PPV would be, sell a lot quicker and with increased demand. This isn't comparable to Clash or AEW shows in the US.
I think they'll do it desu.
