It all depends on how they’re stored. I pick up tapes from the 80s that play like new all the time. Most of this plastic crap is going to outlive all of us.

Yeah double tapes were very common as tapes got cheaper and I guess easier to produce. I remember when I was a kid my mum would get us tapes that were 4 1/2 hours long packed with classic cartoons. Comfy times

it depends on how you record them. Some VHS players had an option for high-speed recording, which would sacrifice some picture quality but it would allow you to fit WAY more on a single tape. Unfortunately, those kinds of recordings do not age well.

I'm not saying everyone needs physical media, but you should at least have a hard drive of your favorite stuff. Personally having physical media makes it more likely I will watch it than if I was to torrent it. But especially with the re dubs going around, now is the time to drop a couple bucks or an external hard drive and make a personal archive. Snatch up old movies too, never know when those seeders are going to go offline and then all this great art ends up being lost forever.

Here's me in 1994 with my new Fisher VCR. This was photo was taking on my 11th birthday. Unfortunately for me the day after when my dad was helping me hook up the VCR to my 1989 Panasonic CRT tv was the day of the OJ Simpson Bronco Chase and my dad was watching that on my tv for hours while I just wanted to watch my Ninja Turtles VHS tapes.
