Ever since you arrived here in Vegas, you’ve been present for a number of strange and incredible occurrences. A criminal circus troupe with a hypnotic and megalomaniacal Ringleader. A surprise Dazzler concert, out of the blue. A gang of aliens-in-disguise that ran a sci-fi themed casino. A demon with an impressive, if not ostentatious, casino that peddles in people’s souls as collateral for their considerable debts. A robotic replica of a Hawaiian Lava god, who just so happens to be a gangster, a hotel owner, and your current employer. The latter of which was currently lecturing you on why it was wrong to go behind her back, obliterate her competitor’s place of business, and fight an army of demons in a pit that had opened up in the middle of the city.
And it might’ve been a bit more believable, if it hadn’t been for the series of conflicting emotions playing across Gloria’s features. She was the robot Goddess/hotel owner/employer you’d mentioned earlier. She went by Gloria Munoz in public, but she sometimes answered to “Pele” when she wanted to throw her weight around. She did not like being called by her serial number, however. When that happened, her usually straight hair would coil and undulate like a tangle of snakes, making it appear as if she were floating in water. But that was only when she got really angry.
That wasn’t happening now, so you weren’t too worried about being boiled alive. Gloria was so caught up in her own monologue that she hadn’t seemed to have properly acknowledged Elsa’s presence in the room. The monster hunter wasn’t in a hurry to make herself known, and was instead content to sit back and watch as the woman paced back and forth in her office.
Gloria was clearly very pleased by Degli’s misfortune, and was simultaneously excited and worried about how he would respond. And then there was the pit of demons to worry about. If those things got out, then you’d have a real problem on your hands.
You suspected that Ana and Elsa would be the ones hunting them, but you wondered whether Degli would just sit back and let them do that. Whatever you did, you knew that you’d need to be better prepared than you were when you first dove into that pit. Whether it was better weapons, better gear, a better plan, or all of the above, you didn’t want to have to gamble with your life, or the lives of your teammates a second time.
But before you did any of that, you would have to wait for Gloria to finish her rant.
“Degli’s going to be on a warpath, you know. He won’t just take this sitting down. Sure, he’s in an incredibly vulnerable position right now, but I worry that he might redouble his efforts to find and punish whoever was responsible for this.”
