Getting into the casino was far easier than you’d expected it to be. The establishment appeared to be a giant, parked flying saucer, with a massive, multi-level tower growing out of the top, and various spotlights pointing up at it. The spotlights were noticeably less impressive during the day. As was the green, tinted glass of the main UFO that supposedly made the casino’s exterior shine like an emerald.

You were just about to link back up with your partner-in-crime, when Araña muttered a curse under her breath. She seemed to be wearing her aviators again.
<span class="mu-r">“We’ve got a problem, guys.”</span>
“What is it?” Cat asked, making her way to the bar and ordering a drink.
<span class="mu-r">“The keycard only works for the elevator. If we want to get into the vault, we’ll need to break into the control rooms on either side of the casino. The vault requires simultaneous confirmation from both stations. And I’ve got a feeling that they won’t take too kindly to us trying to waltz right in.”</span>
Black Cat clicked her tongue. “How’s their security looking? Maybe I can crack the vault without the confirmation code.”
<span class="mu-r">“That’d be pretty damn hard, I think. They’ve got a laser defense grid, and the panel isn’t located anywhere near the actual vault door.”</span> Araña explained. <span class="mu-r">“You’d either be fried, or they’d activate the emergency lockdown before we even got a chance to go in and grab something.”</span>
Hmm. That <span class="mu-i">was</span> a big problem. You only had one clearance badge, and there were two stations. Two of you would have to break into both stations and give the all-clear while the other slipped into the vault.
And considering how tech savvy both girls were, you pretty much knew which role you would be playing in this.

But before any of them could even fire a single shot, you were already sliding down through the elevator shaft, one hand and foot stuck to the wall in order to slow your fall.
Halfway down, you switched your appearance to match that of one of Silas Thorne’s thugs. You knew that there would be cameras down there, and the whole point of this stunt was to get caught in the act. By the time you’d reached the bottom, you used the crimson barbs gathered in your fist to blow the doors apart. Luckily, their physical defenses for the elevator weren’t anything special.
But that was the only good news you were met with at the moment, because the laser defense grid was still up.
<span class="mu-r">“I think I’ve almost got it!”</span> Araña happily exclaimed. <span class="mu-r">“We should be able to get those doors open in another minute or two.”</span>
<span class="mu-b">“Good. At least one of us knows what they’re doing.”</span> Cat said. <span class="mu-b">“These guys must not be all that smart, because this interface isn’t intuitive in the slightest.”</span>
Even with the defense grid separating you from your prizes, you could still vaguely see them through the discolored light filter. You needed to plant one of these babies in Thorne’s casino as evidence, but there was no rule saying that you couldn’t grab something for yourself. That being said, the more you try to take, depending on the shape and weight, would take precious time. Time that you needed to escape from this underground bunker.

Your employer had informed you that Silas described his gambling establishment as being “Pan-Asian”, but the clear fusion of both cultures was still a bit jarring to see in person.
Although, you had to admit that it was nice to see some of his curvier employees wearing a more revealing version of the uniform. Some even had unique and colorful designs that were further complemented by cute hair accessories and the like.
But while you were admiring the view, Silas was visibly fuming. Even from here, you could see a vein throbbing on the side of his head.

There’s a good chance that they’re intrinsically linked to another pair of bands halfway across the galaxy. If we mess around with them too much, there’s a chance that the wearer might swap places with the other.”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“But…it’s not certain that these are linked with another pair. Or that we’d swap ourselves with the other person even if they were.”</span>
Prowler nodded cautiously. <span class="mu-g">“That’s right, but we can’t just assume. We need a specialist to look at these before we start playing around with a cosmic war-machine.”</span>

One shot out a tracking beacon so that the rest of the plasma bolts could track it, no matter where it went. They would curve around corners and could even snag a completely obscured target if the user had enough skill.
Another shot out a lance of energy that was so devastating that it obliterated a support beam and momentarily drew everyone’s attention to you. You quietly apologized and promised that you would be more careful going forward. You decided to skip the grenades for just such a reason, and instead experimented with some of the other gadgets.
One wrist-mounted weapon popped out a pair of sharp talons that resemble the weapon that Predator used. Another fired a grappling tether that seemed to double as a mid-range taser. And the last one that you got try straight up shot buzz saws at your targets! They embedded themselves deep into the concrete, and you struggled to pull them back out without damaging them.
But right when you were about to try out another weapon, a high pitched whirring sound drew your attention to the spaceship, now hovering slightly above the ground. Every engineer in the room had cautiously optimistic grins on their faces, celebrating prematurely as their efforts bore fruit.
Prowler nodded approvingly. <span class="mu-g">“Alright…we managed to get this bird up into the air, but we need to test out the propulsion systems, fuel injector, and weapon systems…”</span>
Prowler trailed off as he realized that everyone in the room was looking at him. He cleared his throat.
<span class="mu-g">“Good work, everyone.”</span>
They passed around another round of congratulations to one another, and then went right back to work, knowing that they were still racing against the clock. It was almost time for Flint to spring his ambush, after all. The Deep One and Ana would be working to cripple their forces from the shadows, but you, Prowler and Cat would be the ones to infiltrate the Mojave base and extract the synthezoid.
But that brought up another question. If Prowler could get this ship up and running, who was going to be the one to pilot it?

And all the while, you passed by various objects that seemed to be suspended in the extradimensional space. Expensive cars, glittering gems, priceless art and thrift store clothing. All of it just out of reach. You thought about snagging a few things as you passed them by, but then thought better of it when you remembered that you were at the mercy of the bag’s owner. She hadn’t triggered your spider sense at all, but you had a feeling that she could easily choose to…keep you here if she so pleased.
With that in mind, you cleared your mind and tried to focus on your destination. After about a half minute of traveling through this nonsensical, starry space, a light appeared at the end of the tunnel. As you approached the widening entrance to the unknown, you braced yourself for anything.
A hand reached out to meet you. You blinked, looked up and saw that the hand belonged to Araña.

Why was she so tall? You looked down, only to gasp in horror when you saw that you were waist deep in ugly-ass duffel bag!
Quickly, you grabbed her hand and allowed her to pull you out the rest of the way. Prowler followed behind you not too long after. You wondered whether he had jumped in willingly, or if Attaché had pulled the same trick on him as she did with you.
Once you caught your breath, you were surprised to see that you were currently standing in a completely foreign environment. The room was yellow and black, and the walls were lined with hexagonal panels. Various large crates were lined up along the wall as well. That’s when you noticed that Black Cat and Benga were also in the room with you.
<span class="mu-r">“What is this place?”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“We’re inside of the Mojave A.I.M. base.”</span> Araña explained. <span class="mu-r">“Attaché got me and Benga in here. I think the cat lady found her own way in.”</span>
Black Cat gave you an innocent shrug that was entirely unconvincing coming from her. Benga’s facial expression was as stoney as ever.
<span class="mu-r">“But there’s still A.I.M. researchers in the facility, so we’ll have to do this carefully.”</span> she continued. <span class="mu-r">“So, me and Benga will create a distraction, while you three go and grab the body. We’ll all meet back up at this bag to extract. Sound good?”</span>

You were just about to go out looking for her when Gloria’s phone rang. She answered it and put it on speaker immediately.

<span class="mu-r">“Right here boss. Benga’s here too. We’re fine.”</span>
You all breathed a sigh of relief.
<span class="mu-b">“Where are you?”</span> she demanded.
<span class="mu-r">“We got out of the base. Sandman and the huntress lady helped us get away.”</span>
<span class="mu-b">“Go back to one of the safehouses and wait there for a few hours until this blows over a bit.”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“No can do, boss. We were spotted and positively ID’d on the way out. We made sure of it.”</span>
Gloria frowned. <span class="mu-b">“Why would you-?”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“Your plan was never going to work out the way you wanted it to, boss. You needed a patsy. Someone to pin the blame on so no one traced this back to you. That’s why I made sure me and Benga were seen stealing from every major player in the city. Including you.”</span>
Araña sounded exhausted, but somehow, you could still imagine the same cocky grin on her face.
<span class="mu-r">“And…it’s why Benga shot Cassandra Mercury. It’s all part of the plan. <span class="mu-i">Our</span> plan.”</span>
You could’ve imagined it, but you thought you heard a muttered apology from Benga in the background.
<span class="mu-r">“Don’t worry. We made sure to make it look like we betrayed you, instead of the other way around. Now, everyone else won’t be so quick to pin the blame on you.”</span>
Gloria ran a hand through her hair, and Koa muttered a curse behind her.
<span class="mu-b">“Girls, you’ve just made yourselves a target for the entire Family. What the hell were you thinking!?”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“We’re thinking that we owe it to you to see that you succeed. You’ve done right by us–treated us better than anyone else has in our entire lives. We’ll never forget that. You’re our ride or die, chica.”</span>

It was the one you’d stolen and stashed in Gloria’s garage. It hovered in place for a few more seconds, before shooting off into the distance.
You all watched it go, giving each other congratulatory pats on the back and the rare, occasional high-five. But all that mirth and good cheer evaporated when Gloria’s secretary peeked her head in the room.
<span class="mu-g">“Um…Ms. Munoz? Mr. Delgi is here to see you.”</span>

You didn’t like this. You didn’t like this one bit. A meeting so soon after the first phase of your operation. And even worse, he demanded to see Ana, too. That meant that he was already fully aware of her presence in the city, as well as her temporary residence in the Mirage Hotel.
You weren’t allowed anywhere near the room they were talking in, and that made things even more nerve-wracking. Eventually, after an hour and a half had passed, Anastasia was finally allowed out of the meeting room. She said nothing of the words that had been traded between her, Mr. Delgi and Gloria Munoz. Nothing that you couldn’t have guessed for yourself, anyway.

That was a good point. Dragging your heels a bit might make you look a little worse to the other members of The Family, but it would certainly give you the time you needed to prepare if you were intending to fight one of them. Araña and Gloria were definitely planning something that they weren’t filling you in on, but you didn’t think that either of them had malicious intentions towards you at the moment.

The only bit of information that Gloria was able to give you that was at least somewhat helpful, was the fact that Mr. Delgi kept powerful, magic artifacts hidden in his casino. There was also a rumor that some of his biggest clients and allies are people that racked up massive debt in his casino. Flint didn’t sound entirely confident in this plan, and you couldn’t blame him. However, Elsa didn’t chastise him for doubting her.

That sounded…reasonable. You were out of your depth here, and you had to rely on Elsa to fill in the blanks for you. You really did need to add a mystical expert on your team at some point.

She picked up her martini and swirled the liquid around in her glass a few times.
Okay, this was bad. If Delgi really was a demon, then all this talk of soul contracts couldn’t mean anything good. But there had to be some way to salvage this situation. Demon contracts were still contracts. And contracts had exploitable loopholes.
You knew a prospective lawyer, a psychic businesswoman, a monster hunter and the Sorcerer Supreme himself. There had to be someone you could go to about this.
But before any of that happened, you’d have to actually <span class="mu-i">see</span> the contract you were dealing with.
<span class="mu-r">“Any chance you remember the contents of the contract?”</span>
She stared at you for a moment, and then shrugged.
<span class="mu-b">“Not off the back of my hand, and not word for word. But if you really want to see it, I don’t think the owner tailors the contract for each and every person.”</span>
You frowned in confusion.
<span class="mu-r">“Meaning?”</span>
<span class="mu-b">“Get him to make you an offer. Go in there and make it look like you’re having an exceptionally bad day. If you do, you might be lucky enough to have your very soul labeled as collateral.”</span>
Her words were those of a defeated pessimist, but one who still had a glimmer of hope in the form of a shady loan shark.
<span class="mu-b">“If you really do find a way to break it, do a girl a favor and pass it along?”</span>
You nodded slowly, and she gave you a different smile this time. It felt more genuine. You got up from your chair and left some money on the table. Enough for both your drinks and then some.
She lazily waved her thanks.

As you vacated the bar, you thought about how you should proceed from here. You had no idea how important the contracts were, but they were your first real lead in this investigation. You planned to break into the Devil’s Den either way, but maybe you didn’t have to do it in the way that you planned.

Everyone gaped at Elsa. It was such an insane solution. Blunt, straightforward, and unsubtle in every conceivable way.

Prowler growled in annoyance, putting his head in his hands and pacing around in his designated corner. Cat raised a finger to offer a suggestion.
<span class="mu-b">“We did get a buttload of depth charges from Gloria earlier. We could use those.”</span>
Ana shook her head and stepped forward, rubbing her chin with a gloved hand.
<span class="mu-g">“We need to consider the overall structure of the casino, as well as the scope of its architecture. We have no idea how deep it goes.”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“Considering how we’re dealing with demons, it probably goes down pretty damn deep.”</span> you added.

Everyone turned to stare at Flint. You expected someone to call him an idiot, but you saw them all considering what he must have been suggesting. There was a lot of sand in the immediate area, and the big guy could very well knock the entire casino over.

You hated to admit it, but Flint’s idea carried the least amount of risk for everyone involved. He could just sort of…sweep in there and tear the place apart. You might miss out on some valuable magical artifacts, but this way, you’d be saving a hell of a lot of time and effort, and freeing the souls of a whole lot of damned people in the process.

Every now and again, he formed a pair of fists to smash the cement blocks apart, and other times, he would send the broken blocks hurtling into one another, but that took significantly longer than just punching the place with a giant, sandy fist. Making sure that he absorbed the brunt of them with his equipment, using the momentum from the strikes to propel him from target to target. He was switching seamlessly, lashing out at anything and everything in his way.
Everyone was damned impressive, that you almost forgot your role in all this. You refocused your attention on keeping the horde of demons at bay, but it almost seemed like there was no end to them! They just kept coming and coming!
Ana was the first to acknowledge it out loud.

As far as wish-list, I personally want to get some personal defense against magic/psychic stuff. We seem to run into mystical shit every time we blink, which storyline wise is fine, but thematically I feel we are ill-equipped.

She was one of the characters that I was excited to introduce in the future once the Vampire War kicked off, but having her show up here is nice too. Allows me to show her off when the tension is at a somewhat reasonable level.
