In addition to reading the Bhagavad Gita I also read the latest ? Dan Abnett Gaunt's Ghosts novel, it is set slightly earlier in time in the series, called The Vincula Insurgency. The last novel I read was the twelfth one, Blood Pact which was extremely good (I think I may have read some that came after too, but have no memory of them)
Random thoughts (all of this actually happens)
-The imperium of man has fallen to the chaos legions of social justice warriors
-Random VERY SENIOR VERY IMPORTANT black woman appears just so that all men can salute her. However, Dan Abnett undermines her agency because she is of no relevance to the plot whatsoever, she actually contributes nothing
-Rawne, who is portrayed as the violent / criminal psychopathic malicious counterpart "shadow" archetype to Colonel Commissar Gaunt in the series, is now really pleasant and sensitive to women. He takes a woman out on a date and apologises for his chauvinism / toxic masculinity. Then he seduces her. I feel like sabotage is occurring in this novel, except it is not the legions of chaos cultists. It is Dan Abnett sabotaging himself
-Abnett introduces a female love interest for Rawne - are we about to see a strong heroine? No, he kills her. Also at critical moments of danger she really just whimpers, does not fight or shoot anything. This is strange for Abnett because his early 40k novels are full of fighting women who massacre legions of chaos cultists eg in his inquisitor Eisenhorn, Ravenor series and also the female former hive-gangers imperial guard who join the Tanith (I think she was called something like Tona Criid?) These were all memorable inspiring heroines
https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Tona_Criid-The storyline is basically about that qtg argument over Nazi symbols. Except Abnett dilutes it with stuff about !notNazi chaos cult serpent Ouroboros "Robby Ross??" I looked this up on wikipedia, is it a reference to the figure Robbie Ross in the Oscar Wilde GAY SCANDAL?? this was extremely weird, why Abnett why??
-The novel is also about winning hearts and minds Iraq or Afghan insurgency. Strangely, not many of the Tanith regiment die in this novel in contrast to early novels when the Tanith are repeatedly massacred. Abnett tries to make it a bit morally poignant Are We The Taliban?? The answer is no, because you are not wearing the ethnic hats (this is in the novel). You can tell someone's ethnicity by looking at their hat
-Ok Dan Abnett, you are showing off you know some latin vincula etc ok I am still impressed by this
-Gaunt draws his chainsword, bolt pistol. I got SUPER EXCITED. Then he puts them away again
-I cannot handle how the imperial guard are called the astra militarum now. This name change will writhe in eternal infamy
>From now on, all 40k quests must include the above social justice themes>this is just what the grim dark future is like now
