"Fuck if we know." The Middle Ranger shrugs without any real worry in his expression. "See, the base we're trained at is to the east of here. She worked there before she went missing."
"Been a few days since she's gone. Counted five days of absence so far." The Lead Ranger adds.
"We're not worried that she hasn't shown up at the base for a few days. She's an actual mutt, she'll come back home when she's done." The Young Ranger snarks.
"Listening to her yap..."
"A real bitch she is..."
"You guys are all making dog jokes," You remark. "Is she really that bad?"
The three look at each other before guffawing.
"That's the point isn't it?!"
"Dog of the Corporation..."
"Life's a bitch and she makes sons out of all of us." The Lead Ranger snarls as if the mere memory of her is enough to piss him off. "Last we heard, she got some anonymous tip from a buncha shady dudes. <span class="mu-b">Can't remember their faces or what they wore...</span>"
That rings an alarm bell in your head. Couldn't be a spook, right? Otherwise they'd just kidnap or kill her.
"Apparently she went missing after that, wandering from town to town lookin' for 'silver freaks' and 'ways to REALLY help the useless fucks out here'." Now that complicates things. "Nonsense. Never seen anyone wearing silver ever."
"Wait, so she's going around trying to 'help' people?" Kiara is trying her best to understand what she's hearing. "She's not in any danger?"
"Yeah. Hell, she <span class="mu-b">likes getting into trouble. She'd wander into outlaw dens or track down anomalies out here to punch.</span> Used to do that all the time when she could still do fieldwork. She got promoted to a trainer a while back, though. Basically a demotion to her."
"She's a bitch but she ain't half bad at her job." "Even if she forces you to clean the bathrooms with a toothbrush if you're even 30 seconds late." "Gotta say. She made us the men we are. Almost better than our own mothers."
Huh. This is going to sound less like a rescue mission and moreso like a wild goose chase to, what, hunt down a woman having a midlife crisis?
"We ain't worried about her. <span class="mu-b">Heard she has the devil's luck. Never seen anything that could kill her.</span>"
"We're worried about whoever she's trying to find. Ain't no fun fighting a rabid animal."
With that, the Rangers depart. Something about what they said is really getting under your skin. It's clearly making everyone else in your group skeezed out.
"It almost sounds like the silvers told AA to hunt down their own group, right?" Max hums to herself as she tries to find a reasonable explanation. "Doesn't that seem weird?"
"Think there's a reason behind it?" Benjamin scratches his head. "Maybe they think she'd kill herself chasing after them?"
"Why not just shoot her then?" Clover points out the obvious thing they could've done if they actually met AA.
"this smells like a trap but is it for her or is it for us?" Something seems to click in Casey's drugged brain. "could be risky to find her now."
