>>5371672In such a strongly matriarchal society, one could imagine an arrangement where several men share a single mate, but for the drow this is almost never the case. A drow's life is fast-paced and chaotic, where violence is capital and even the most privileged individuals are only tenuously comfortable. Dying of old age in mainstream Lolthite society is almost unheard of, and paranoia is seen as rational.
This is a very anarchic world, so maintaining attachments, even casual ones, is strenuous. Usually, one couples with whoever happens to be around at the time and gives the matter no further thought. Anyone you know today could be dead tomorrow or, worse, turn on you. If two drow ever manage to have a lasting relation, it's because their careers force them to work with one another for a prolonged period, or
they're blood-related. These couplings are not seen as taboo. This is not to say that there is no jealousy. Men do not often have the privilege of refusing a woman's advances, which can lead to competitive entanglements when two women take an interest in monopolizing the same man. Like everything else in Lolthite society, this will escalate until at least one party ends up being killed, if not all of them. Many handsome males will mutilate themselves for their own safety just to avoid being caught up in these envy-fueled "catfights." Being a pretty boy is not all downsides, mind you. While women have to fight tooth and nail against other women for a place in the hierarchy, a charismatic man can live in luxury by courting the favor of influential lovers... until it catches up with him, at least. And obviously, things are very different for the followers of Eilistraee.
So, there you have it. Jez had to share her boyfriends with her sisters, and they probably fought about it a whole lot. Bit sad, innit?
