You kept your hands raised, but flicked your pointer finger back and forth to signal Black Cat. The guy with the gun noticed the odd gesture, but he was thrown off by the next thing that came out of your mouth.
“You first. I’ll unmask if you do.”
The armed scientist fixed his grip on his laser pistol and took a step forward. “Don’t try to deflect. You’re not worming your way out of this. Mask. Off.”
The demand was clear, and he didn’t look like he had any intention of following your suggestion. But that was okay. Because that wasn’t really your intention. All you needed was for him to keep his attention on you while Black Cat got into position.
You’d been worried that one of the others might try to warn him of the strange A.I.M. scientist creeping up behind him, but surprisingly, no one did. You guessed that they didn’t appreciate being held at gunpoint either.
Before the agitated scientist’s trigger finger could get itchy, he was suddenly hit in the back of the head by a powerful blow from the butt of a plasma rifle. You suspected that it also had a stun setting, but shooting him with it when he was pointing a gun at you could’ve caused him to involuntarily pull the trigger. A good call.
The scientist fell to the ground, and everyone looked up at Felicia with a mixture of hope and anxiety.
“Well? What are you all standing around for? Grab the specimen and follow me. We’ve been instructed to deliver it to a lower level of the facility.”
For a second they glanced at each other in hesitation, but they got moving quick enough that Cat didn’t need to repeat herself. Still, she held up a hand to stop them before they could go anywhere.
“No. I only need two of you. The rest of you will secure the prisoner and remain here.” she said, before pointing at you and Prowler. “You and you, come with me.”
You and your fellow Desperados wasted no time in grabbing the synthezoid making off towards the elevator. No one dared to stop you on your way out, and if they noticed you going up instead of down on the elevator, they didn’t do anything to prevent it.
There was a general concern about someone surveying the camera feed and noticing that there were three A.I.M. scientists bringing a valuable specimen closer to the intruders, but it would appear that luck was on your side. The elevator reached its destination, and you were able to find a white cloth that covered up the synthezoid body well enough that no one would try to stop you right away.
Somehow, in all the chaos, the three of you managed to reach the extraction point, while only having to take out a handful of people. There, you removed your stolen uniforms and proceeded to stuff the damaged body into the magical bag of holding.
“We’ve got the target, and we’re waiting by the extraction point. We don’t have long before someone comes to check this room.” you reported over the radio.
