It was a blood rage that was etching through his body, Lucian realized, for that was what Drengi was and were. Oath bound to a death at the hands of the enemy the followers of Grimnir had the ability to summon awesome strength that was beyond their own countenance and understanding. Of course they were still a select few of the Slayers who displayed such might yet it was clear that they couried the favor of their Warrior God like how a Lady Favors valorous knights.
It was this desire for battle, to see uin to one’s enemies, that caused Lucian to ride upon Nightshade through the forests of Bordeleaux. He had heard the reports from Remon that these creatures, Beastmen, had raided three villages and were growing in mass because of their carnage.
As they crossed into his lands the Count had decided to build a force to subjugate them. It was due to set out tomorrow with Lucian in tow yet now the youth could not remain.
“There they are!” Cheered Adok from the back of the wagon that was being pulled by Truffles. The Black Knight followed the armored finger of the dwarf to see the group of monsters assembled.
“FOR MORR, FOR THE LADY!” Declared Lucian without much care. His declaration being an affront to the Beastmen the creatures bellowed their own warcry before charging towards the two of them.
Without care of his personal safety Lucian urged Nightshade forward. The beast easily doing what its master wanted and with grace carried itself through the forest floor which would have troubled many horses like it.
Just like the Beastmen the horse was able to bend itself around trees without losing speed. The Beastmen who were upon either four or two legs gave roars as they advanced towards the lone Knight who foolishly charged them.
In a single slice Lucian killed the three closest. His strikes were not even the elegant strikes upon the neck and openings that he was used to, only a brutal strike through the stomach and spine that was the characteristic slaughter of the Slayers.
Such a show of brutality brought pause to the beastmen, to which only lasted until Lucian cut down another grouping of them.
By the time Adok arrived to the fight things were already in full swing.
