>>5840096Ahead you could make out the rocky shelf of the true shoreline, it was as ugly and dangerous as you had made the rest of the rocks out to be and you dreaded what might have happened if you had been pulled by the current onto it with the strength that nagged at you even at this rock, a small part of you wished desperately that you had even half the strength that the girl had shown carrying you to her rock, the current would have proven little issue to you then and you could have readily been free of this, with sudden surprise you realised the pull had lulled to a gentle tug and that the sea had receded a touch though you knew it to be temporary you seized the opportunity, if it returned in force as you knew it would not even the stranger could save you.
With a mad strength you pried Crab’s claw from its stony rest and made for the shore, you could feel the swell returning and immediately wanted to return to your post as you began to swim, such a thing would guarantee your death you knew strangely and your only hope was the threatening shore, the water continued to swell as you made your way and anxiety and dread ruled your actions, you thought about abandoning Crab’s claw, the helm, even your lovers idol in your despair and panic set in as you felt yourself overcome by the returning wave which pulled you fiercely along its current, with dreadful speed it smashed you upon the rocky shelf with uncaring brutality, you made to brace so as to not be impaled by some sharp tooth of a rock and found brief purchase until the course of the next wave caused a slip, pain exploded as your you were rammed against the shelf, white spots in your eyes as water coursed over you, the force was so strong it held you almost pinned, for a dreadful moment you felt your grip slip on Crab’s claw and your vision ebbed before you seized upon the pain with a desperate hope, as the next wave smashed upon the rock you propelled yourself upwards with it with as much strength and force as you could muster, the waving carrying you in a weightless swell of energy that sent your stomach to knots, In a spray of silver foam you caught the edge of the shelf and pulled upwards as another wave slammed the rocks, deperately, heedlessly you pulled yourself over the edge and rolled coughing and gasping over the edge as sea spray rained upon you, everything hurt, your lungs and limbed burned with pain and exertion but you had made it.
