>>5834394I don't think the plot of the game is worth caring about, honestly. In terms of how interesting the events are, and whether there are twists, it has... Very little of note? I'd even go so far as to say it's bland and forgettable. You could probably be spoiled on the entire game, scene by scene, and lose nothing for it.
But by that same metric, you'd also gain nothing. The game's quality is carried almost entirely on the quality of character writing and interaction, so it's in an interesting position where experiencing what happens matters more than knowing what happens. Even knowing what a conversation is about in summary doesn't matter, because you'd miss the words used and the way it reflects or otherwise informs character personality.
That's my evaluation of it, anyway. I could easily get carried away and drop whole walls of text on character analysis and details of how the specific style of writing carries so much weight, but suffice to say I walked away with an active desire try and improve my own character dialogue and interaction. There's just so much more for me to keep in mind that I'd never really considered in an conscious sense. There's a lot in terms of Valen's cast's mental states, for instance, that I feel I've just utterly failed to convey in an organic and meaningful manner.
I also ended up diving through the rest of the dev's work. No Good Noelle and Better Half were my favorites after Coffin. Still haven't touched Divilethion though. Better Half in particular had a refreshing and fun way of portraying chronic depression and the difficulty that comes with trying to exist with it.anyhow I'll be calling the votes later tonight!
