>>5745200>>5745224>>5745277Slowly, gently, you approach, peeking through only to see Head Girl, Prefect, daughter of the boy-who-lived, seeker of the Gryffindor Quidditch team and the girl who had asked you on a date only to take her to her father’s office so he could tell you you didn’t exist, the beautiful overachiever Lily Luna Potter. She's pouring over some ancient looking tome, her fiery red hair cascading over the desk.
Considering your current situation, she was exactly the second worst person you could possibly find in here, except for, of course-
When Harry James Potter dropped his legendary Cape of Invisibility on the floor and materialized behind her, you very nearly gave out a scream that every single one of your future enemies would fight to get a memory of, as they would forever be able to use it to blackmail you, given the sheer ear-piercing quality it would have had if it had ever managed to slip through your throat.
You cover your mouth and just watch as the Deputy Headmaster slaps his daughter over the head with a piece of parchment, and she lets out a terrified shriek you immediately mark as needing to file away at a pensieve somewhere, for later blackmail use.
“Dad! What the hell! You nearly scared me to death!”
“I thought I told you to go to sleep.”
“I… was just doing some late-night research?”
“Yes, and I’m a pink acromantula. You’re here searching for an adventure,” he said matter-of-factly. “While abusing your privileges as Head Girl.”
“I can assure you this book is not adventurous at all. How did you even find me, anyway?” She asked, and he simply waved the parchment he’d hit her with. “Using the Map is cheating!”
“The Map is an ancient piece of Hogwarts Security your grandfather transformed into a pranking tool. I merely returned it to its original purpose.”
“You’ve grown boring.”
“Responsible is the right word.”
“Do you have any idea what I could have done with that map?”
“I studied with your uncle George, so yes, which is exactly why none of you ever put your hands on it. A Weasley-Potter with the power of the Marauder’s Map would bring this school to its knees, and its teachers to heart attacks.” Even from this distance, you could hear the smile on his voice. Then his tone shifts to a tired and worried one. “He doesn’t show up on it.”
“Even in there? That thing can beat polyjuice and animagus but can’t find him? Who in Merlin’s name is he?”
“I don’t know, Lily. But it isn’t your job to find out.”
“But I want to help!”
“No, you want to be in a magical adventure like the one your father had. I can assure you they are not fun to be in, just fun to be told about. Please, Lily. Leave it to me. I don’t want you getting involved. You're seventeen.”
"You were eleven."
"Yes, and I'd like my daughter to live a life with less death than mine. It's my job to protect you, not the other way around.”
