>>5955279“Princess, I see you’ve come,” a pause, “prepared.” Inquisitor Asher says as he looks at both the weapon bags strapped over your shoulders and the three cases of baggage that a maid is currently handing off to a bellman who puts it on a luggage cart.
“Indeed, this is to be a prolonged journey. Is it not? I don’t see your bags anywhere, are they already on the train?” You ask, genuinely curious.
“Uh, no. I got another safehouse near where we’re going so I just need this overnight bag for the train.” He says shaking the backpack he has strapped on.
“Is it common for inquisitors to have houses in multiple locations?” You ask, your family has a palace or a castle in most regions of the country but it never crossed your mind the inquisition might as well for their agents.
“Depends on how often one tends to travel for missions. I do so I got at one in most major cities in Lindan, all paid for by the Church. Though don’t expect anything,” a pauses for a second and looks over the Royal Palace, “grand.”
You nod, “And the train, we will be staying overnight?”
“It’ll take about forty-eight hours to get to Ivern, where we’re staying, with all the stops on the way. Normally I’d be more worried about being cramped but your folks made sure we got the best of accommodations. So I’ll say working with royalty is pretty nice.” Your eyes widen when you hear Ivern, that’s where Cathrine lives, the northern border of the Highlands and the Lowlands.
“Does the inquisition not do the same?” Why wouldn’t they spend enough money to provide the best accommodations? Even Barons do that.
“We prefer to be a bit more incognito. That’s hard to do with a princess in tow, though.”
“So now you get to enjoy accommodations befitting those of wealth because you’re with me?”
“And I’ll be very sad when you become an actual inquisitor and I go back to living like a commoner.” You see something, you’re not sure what, flash in his eyes for just a second as he says this.
“Are you a commoner?” You question, you genuinely can’t tell.
“If I was I can assure I’d be too low rank for it to matter. Come on we’re burning daylight.” As the inquisitor says that he turns and starts walking towards the carriage that’s been provided for the two of you.
It doesn’t take long to start moving once you’re inside, the driver whips his horses into action the moment the door closes. But now you’re alone with the inquisitor on your way to the station. Now would be an excellent time to ask some questions.
