“Well, you don’t have to worry about the guy that poisoned you for a while. He got arrested this morning.”
Both women turned their full attention on you upon hearing that.
“Did he, now? Serves him right.” the Deep One said with a viscous grin.
“I thought you would’ve wanted revenge on him, or something.” Callisto said, looking a bit relieved by this outcome.
The shark woman’s grin widened at that. “Oh, but I did get revenge. I clawed one of his eyes out as a parting gift. I’d like to see him heal from that.”
Your eyes drifted down to the Deep One’s hands, and, sure enough, she had razor sharp claws in the place of normal fingernails.
“What exactly are your powers? I don’t think I’ve ever asked.” you said.
Her white pupils slid back over to you, reminding you slightly of a deep sea creature that you saw in a nature documentary once. “It’s about what you’d expect. I’m strong, fast, and can tear people to shreds, even outside of water.”
“She also heals fast, breathes underwater, and can take a serious beating.” Callisto said, clearly finding her friend’s explanation insufficient.
The Deep One rolled her eyes. “He already knew that stuff. I’m sure he’s been picking up the context clues that we’ve been dropping.”
“Speaking of clues,” you began, not wanting to give them the opportunity to get into another argument while you were here. “The area where the Serpent Society was staying has probably been cleared out already. It might be worth exploring, just in case they left any goodies behind.”
Both women glanced at each other. Callisto nodded slightly.
“I’ll be sure to check it out sometime.” the Deep One agreed.
“Keep your eyes peeled while you’re down there.” Callisto reminded her.
The Deep One gave her leader a rough salute. “Aye aye, Captain. I’ll bring back any buried treasure that I find.”
Callisto frowned slightly, but didn’t comment on the matter any further. “Anything else?”
“Yeah. I wanted to give you guys a warning.” you said, glancing over at Cindy as you spoke. At first, you had assumed that she was standing guard over you and the rest of the Morlocks in the corner of the room. However, it didn’t escape your notice how most of her attention was fixed firmly on the video game that the younger Morlocks were playing in the rec room.
“There’s this Russian spy called the Chameleon. He can change his appearance and imitate people with a scary level of accuracy. I foiled his plans twice now, and I think he might want revenge.”
“You think he’ll try to attack us?” Callisto asked.
“He’s come after my family before, so I’m assuming that my friends are fair game too.”
The Deep One beamed at you and nudged her leader excitedly. “Did you hear that, Callie? He called us his friends!”
