That made Ester giggle.

“You forgot to brood. Can’t forget about the brooding.” Glass mentioned.

“I won’t be able to do it any justice, but I’ll give it my best shot.” you said, giving them your best one-eyed scowl.

That seemed to cheer Glass up a little bit. He might not have much confidence in himself as a leader, but you’ve personally seen how bold he can be. And even if he does mess up, you and his other friends will be there to pick up the pieces.

But that’s not the only thing you came here to talk about.

“Yes. I’ve never had the opportunity to examine a mutant until now. Your friend should still technically be considered one, but even I can’t tell how much discrimination she’ll face, should her identity as a mutant be made public. If I were her, I wouldn’t tell anyone that I possessed the X-Gene. It’d make life easier for her.”

You couldn’t argue with that. Taking pride in being a mutant was one thing, but seeing as how this version of Iara didn’t have any stake in that war, it’d be far easier to pretend that she was just a mutate, rather than a mutant.

“Would you be interested in exchanging contact info, then? We’ll need a way to contact you for her follow-up appointment, or if something goes wrong.”

Instead of replying normally, Ada waved her finger through the air and casually sipped from her straw. A moment later, your phone buzzed in your belt pouch.

“There. You’ll have to forgive me if I didn’t set a contact photo for myself. I don’t take many personal pictures, and I don’t consider myself to be very photogenic. I can share some of my art with you if you’d like. Do you have an interest in art, by any chance?”

“If the resale value is high enough, then yeah. I’d say that I have a mild interest in art.”

You replied. The look on her face told you that that wasn’t the answer that she expected or wanted, so you decided to change tack.

“But…that doesn’t mean I’m not open to learning more about it. Feel free to send me whatever you think is interesting. And in return, I hope I can do the same to you whenever I come across something strange or unusual. I can even make it worth your while.”

Before answering, Ada held up a finger, picked up her burger and took a big bite out of it. She chewed it appreciatively, and rather thoroughly in your opinion. When she finally swallowed, she placed the burger back down and stared across the table as if she was studying you.

“Alright, you’ve piqued my interest. If all your requests are as unusual as your most recent one, then I can’t imagine myself becoming bored in your company.”

You extended a hand towards her.

“So we have a deal?”

Ada smartly took a moment to wipe her hands before shaking yours. And seeing as how you had an order coming up, you figured that you should make yourself comfortable and further acquaint yourself with the Techno-sorceress.

After everyone’s lunch break, Ada returned to recover her pocket dimension. During your time away, the Morlocks continued bonding with each other and gorging themselves on pizza. But at some point, they realized that spending time within the time dilation chamber and requesting food every few minutes could get annoying, so they started spending time outside of it instead.

Ana sounded concerned, but she needn’t be. You waved your cloaking device at her.

“Don’t forget, I’ve still got this baby. Plus, we’ve got a few of those beekeeper suits that we swiped from the Mojave base.”

“And from what I understand, we only need to keep him in the dark for a few days. He won’t know what hit him, until we’re ready to hit him!”

Flint’s declaration seemed pretty obvious, but it was good to know that you were all on the same page.

“Then we’re really doing this.”

You nodded at Ana and gave her an encouraging smile. She returned it and squeezed your hand.

“Aww, you two are adorable.”

Ana turned to glare at Elsa, but there was no contempt in it.

“I am not a child anymore, Elsa. You cannot embarrass me like you did in the past. I have nothing to be ashamed of.”

She wove her fingers through yours and moved a bit closer to you. Elsa just kept smiling at the two of you.

“Give it some time. I’ll find a way to get under your skin. I always do.”

It was a promise that you genuinely hoped she’d make good on. Seeing a flustered Ana would probably be the best form of entertainment in this entire city.

In order to track down some of the regulars at the Devil’s Den, you decided to ask around town with Flint, under the pretext of being a loan shark looking for a particularly dodgy customer.

Results for that effort were more forthcoming than you could’ve hoped, so you guessed that it wasn’t the most uncommon thing in a city like this. But finding the guy was the easy part. Now you had to get him alone and find a suitable disguise that wouldn’t give away your true identity.

Ultimately, you gave up and decided to go with one of the generic presets that Araña programmed into the device. With luck, this guy won’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

Grabbing your target in a public area wasn’t as hard as you would’ve thought. Especially when the cops were being paid off to look the other way.

All Flint had to do was collapse into a pile of seemingly dormant sand, shift rapidly under his feet, and drag him into a nearby alley. He’d barely gotten the chance to shout in surprise before the Sandman pressed him against a wall and dragged him up to the roof. His mouth was muffled the entire time, so all he could do on the way up was squirm and whimper helplessly.

Flint didn’t release him immediately when they’d made it to the top. There was still a chance that he might scream, after all. And you wanted to make extra sure that he understood the position he was in.

For a moment, everyone just stared at you in stunned silence, clearly surprised to be addressed by someone in a costume for what might’ve been the first time in their lives. A surprising amount of them raised their hands, looking confused and more than a little bit pissed. One such woman claimed to have bought hers for $30, and that’s when the insults started flying.

The snake of a hotdog vendor began to cower and retreat from the growing mob, his hands held up in a placating gesture. He looked like he was about to turn and run, but before he could, you flipped over the man and landed behind him.

You placed a heavy hand on his shoulder, causing him to flinch and let out an involuntary squeak.

“Now, I might not be great with directions, but I’m pretty sure we’re not in a ballpark. So, why’re you charging an arm and a leg for a damn hotdog?” you asked, narrowing your eyes and leaning in close until you could see your mask reflected in his watery eyes.

“I-I h-have fallen on hard times, my friend. Please forgive-”

He didn’t manage to get any more words out, on account of you webbing his mouth shut and all.

Now, how will you deal with this guy?

>Web him up and hand out refunds to the people that bought food from this swindler. The cops can deal with him later.
>Suggest that he hand out hot-dogs for free for the rest of the day. At least that way he can avoid getting beaten up like he was about to.
>Swing him up to a nearby building, away from the grasping hands of the public, and give him a chance to explain himself. You might not agree with his business practices, but you've been the culprit of many a hustle back in your heyday. You sincerely doubt it, but maybe he had a decent reason for doing this.
