Your eyes open with a start and it takes a second to reground yourself in reality. What a strange dream you just had, it felt like you were living a life that wasn’t your own. Is that what it’s like for most people who dream? You never really remember your own. You shake the thought away, you must’ve been out for a while, given the stiffness of your back and how the countryside is already passing outside your window, the sun hiding behind newly assembling clouds. You must not have known how exhausted you were if you’re still sleeping like this. That must be it.
You bring up your hand to rub the sleep from your eyes, momentarily forgetting it was holding a book when you were last conscious. Only to startle as something different is brought to your face, a photograph. It looks to have been taken by an expert in the craft but its contents are most disturbing.

A thousand questions race through your mind, the answers to none of them pleasant. Eventually, your mind settles on the fact someone must be messing with you, magically. You don’t ever remember posing for a photo like this, and the cathedral doesn’t even look familiar.
