Content to leave the Morlocks to their own devices for a while longer, you allowed Koa to escort you back to the girls’ room. According to him, it hadn’t been very long at all since you snatched those drinks out of his hands. That meant that, at best, Araña and Benga only got about a day or two of rest, and that’s not even counting the time spent undergoing what you could only assume was a series of invasive tests.
Gloria wanted to be absolutely certain that what happened to Iara wouldn’t happen to her girls. And honestly, you couldn’t blame her. You weren’t even sure if you could call Iara’s procedure a success. She was just so…so different from the way she used to be. It was going to be a major adjustment for everybody when you reintroduced her to the Morlocks.
By the time you’d arrived, both girls were sitting up in their beds and waiting for you. They looked much better than they had when you’d last seen them. There was still an aura of weariness about them, but it wasn’t that bone-deep exhaustion that they’d cultivated over the course of several restless nights, on account of the Brood attacking them constantly.
Araña perked up when she saw you. Her usual smile was one of a seasoned scam artist, constantly looking for her next mark, but at this very moment, she just looked plain glad to see you.
Curiously, Gloria wasn’t here at the moment.
“Hey, boss. Haven’t seen you in a minute.”
You chuckled at that.
“That statement is more true than you think.”
Benga gave you a confused look, but you refused to elaborate further on the topic. After all, it was more fun to keep them guessing. Maybe you’d tell them later.
“Nevermind that, though. You wanted to see me?”
Araña nodded. She had a serious look on her face, for once. It didn’t quite match up to Benga’s, but that was mostly because the red-headed girl naturally had a nonchalant air about her.
“We’ve been thinking about your offer, and all the options you gave us.”
She began. Benga picked up right after her.
“And we want to hear more about that…’magical flower’ thing.”
It sounded like she had difficulty bringing up a topic this ridiculous, but you personally didn’t understand why they would blink twice after having fought alien gangsters and a group of villainous circus performers.
You were more than happy to hook them up with a job, but there were a few things that you’d probably need to figure out before anything was set in stone. Like their means of transportation, and a place to live.
