"You sure?" Clover chokes out a nervous laugh. You simply nod your head in response. You have a good eye on people you can trust to be allies and so far, you haven't been betrayed yet.
[UNSTABLE] OPERATIVE WORD BEING 'YET'.
"Hey. Casey trusted me, didn't she?" You try to offer a comforting smile. "How about it, partner?"
"Nice lady! Very weird eyes! Reminds me of a weird deer!" Casey chirps out. Wow, thanks.
Clover is still hesitating but after looking at Casey and your other allies, he grabs onto your hand to shake it. "It couldn't hurt to leave this place. As long as you don't send me on any death traps." You were half tempted to tell him you had an ally expressively for using as a meat shield but that would scare him off.
You shake his hand as hard as you can. "Deal's a deal. Guess I have to take your soul or something now, eh?" You try your best to copy that shit eating grin Max makes. Clover quietly chuckles at your joke.
"Eh. Maybe not that. Deal's a deal, though." He lets go of your hand.
You quickly shove your phone into his hand once he does so. "Good. Now that we're friends, I need you to do two things with this. Put your phone number and the numbers of your sponsors in here. Consider the sponsors one my second reward for winning. Second, dial up the one labeled "Handler". Does a Mr. Foxtrot ring a bell?"
His face instantly turns pale. You continue speaking, "Talk to Mr. Foxtrot. I think someone 'fair' and 'just' would admit the truth to him, no? Just make sure to give it back once you're done."
Clover hesitantly pulls Casey off of him (with some whining from her) before dialing the number. He heads to the office door and opens it right as the call picked up. "Heeey, Mr. Foxtrot. So, uh, I would like to-" A stream of incomprehensible rage pours out the speaker. All you can make out is "DID YOU KILL HER" and "YOU FUCKING FAGGOT I'LL-".
He quickly runs out of the office, slamming the door behind him with a look of sheer embarrassment on his face.
Benjamin is the first one to pip up with a response. "Wow. Your boss is kinda an asshole. Max, can we kill him later?"
Max pats her mess of a partner on the head. "No. That would ruin her job, dummy."
"Woo." Adam spins around in the office chair. "That was a hell of a change of pace for me. Scary but I can't say I hate it. You do this DAILY?"
"Well, the last two missions I went on involved having to evade an anomaly and having to kill a gang. This is frankly a change of pace for me." You respond with mildly concerning nonchalantness.
"Eh. Kinda preferred the gang one. Still hurting a bit from it but I'm, uh, better at that kind of thing." Ashley mumbles. "Kinda wondered why you brought me along here, actually?"
You should probably address that sooner than la-
"Oooo! Gun!" Casey has picked up the discarded gun that Clover forgot to bring. Ashley and Adam immediately move in to tard wrangle her. As you tune out the high tone chirps and low tone grunts, you wait.
