“Good instinct." Grant keeps a hold of your elbow.
It takes a second for Coco to get her gun ready.
“What’s your name, big girl?” With his other hand he points at Typhu.
“Let go of him!” Typhu, unlike Coco, didn’t waste a second too long.
“You’re fast.”
You take Burden from its holster and slam it down on Grant’s grip.
“Okay, okay.” He lets go of your arm. Aura prevented the broken wrist you were willing to cause. “Message received.”
“What are you doing here? Talk!”
“You’re nowhere near big enough to use intimidation, lil’ bro.”
“Answer!”
“I’m here because I know someone who decided to do something very fucking dumb. What were you thinking marching yourself into the Beawolves’ den?!”
You stand your ground. “You said Ironwood was the safest one.”
“The safest one in a group you should never EVER interact with again-!” Grant sighs. “Look, I don’t wanna fight again-”
“Funny way of going about it.” Coco slowly lowers her gun.
“-and if you let me finish, please. You already did what I specifically forbade you, but I won’t tell ma.”
“What’s the catch? Gonna make me drop the ceremony? Not happening.” Not while Isaac counts on me.
“No, I- ugh.” Grant takes a second to compose himself. “Look, I’d rather you didn’t do this and had I known about it sooner I’d have stopped you-”
“I knew it-”
“-but now it’s done. Besides, you’re doing it for a good cause.”
“What is your point?”
“I can’t stop you from getting into this mess, but I can prevent you getting into even MORE messes.” Grant calls Promised Return to his hand. “Like this.”
“Give it back now!” you demand and are almost tempted to point a gun to your own brother.
“Sure, here.” He surprises you by just handing it to you.
You eye the staff like it’s a bomb. What’s his game? Is it bugged?
Grant keeps awkwardly holding it forward. “Something wrong?”
“Why did you take it?”
“Because this weapon is illegal, as you damn well know. I had to get it off your drunken hands - talking about that, why were you two getting drunk all alone? Did you wanna fuck or something?”
Coco’s breath hitches. “NO!”
“Well, you should’ve brought a third. Anyway, I smelled a scandal coming a mile away so I interfered. Took me two days of useless bureaucracy to get permission to hold onto this for you. I’d have seduced that secretary but she was so uptight I worried for whatever tries to open her up, so I had to do it legit. I thought you’d still be asleep by now, considering how shitfaced you got.”
“Do what?”
“Getting in as a licensed huntsman! Can you believe there’s a different form for every type of Dust? No wonder everyone just enters without registering. Will you just take the damn thing? My arm is getting tired.”
