The Peasant watched as the dwarf looked through the pages. His face was rather tight, squinting as he tried to discern the lettering that was used by the wordsmith Priest.
Or at least that was how Lucian imagined the writing to be, as he had only come to understand numbers, he had to think that the written word was far better than that to be used by the noblemen. Anything else would be less honorable in the eyes of the Peasant.
“I think I got something here.” Adok said as he pointed a fat finger upon one of the pages, “It says right here that there have been some disappearances. A guard or two not appearing for work one day.”
“Was it a one off?” Lucian asked with a small amount of dread creeping into his spine.
“Neigh. This page, this page, and this one all mention it.” He started pointing in numerous points with a calm gaze, “Our Priest, a Robert, says here he requested assistance from other Temples. This was… uh… a month ago.”
“Right during the rumblings of war.”
“Aye, shitty time to be asking for reinforcements when there are Orcs just across the horizon.” Agreed Adok as he looked at it closely, “Seems those disappearances kept happening. Apparently some of the Priests who left the temple got nabbed, so the Umgi thought it best he stay here at the Temple.”
“I see, so one of the corpses we have belongs to Father Robert. Anything else?”
“Nope, fellow knew going outside was going to get him killed so he didn’t do any investigations.” Adok said as he grew a smile and walked to the chest. With a crack of his fist the lock shattered and he opened it to show a leather booklet, “This has the addresses of all those who served the Temple. Most of their guards and some of the Priests lived outside the Temple, so maybe we go checking out their homes.”
“Yeah, that might be an idea.” Lucian agreed.
