You rapidly glanced between the most expensive items in the vault, wondering which ones you’d be able to grab before being trapped inside, when…you had a VERY good idea!
—------
As soon as the laser grid went down, you sprang into motion and made a grab for the lightest objects in the room. The silver gauntlets, flashlight, Kree uniform and pitch black uniform were the easiest to carry, by far. By contrast, the orb was deceptively heavy, and would’ve been far more awkward to carry if your hands didn’t have an adhesive quality. The racks that held the alien weaponry were also proving to be far more trouble than they were worth, so you snagged them quickly and bundled them all up in a web-sack before loading them onto the ship. Thankfully, the android was a bit easier to lug around, since its humanoid shape allowed you to bridal carry it onto the alien vessel with relative ease. The only object that you’d neglected to load onto the ship was the pitch black fabric from earlier. You’d need that to plant in Silas’ office later.
Once that was done, you made a visual check to make sure that you’d grabbed everything of interest, before nodding to yourself and pulling out a small, round object. The lumpy, red orb was your last remaining Pym Pebble, and you’d never tested it out on something with this much mass. There was no guarantee that it would work, but you had to try.
“Here goes nothing…”
You wound your arm back and tossed the object at the spaceship. Immediately, the entire vessel shrunk into the orb, taking it and all your loot into temporary storage. The way the orb jumped and wiggled sort of reminded you of a Pokeball, but after a few seconds, it seemed to settle down and stabilize itself.
“Yes!”
Just as you went to retrieve the orb, your radio crackled to life.
“How’re things looking over there?” Cat asked.
“I’m in the vault, but I’m having trouble carrying the unbearably crushing weight of my raw, natural talent.”
Despite herself, Cat snorted a laugh. “I’m surprised that you can even stand upright with a head that big.”
“Save the showboating for later, guys. We can’t hold that door open for much longer!” Araña cut in.
“Right. On my way out now.”
You ran back towards the elevator and dove for the entrance, feeling your spider sense warning you about some impending threat from above. And it was a good thing you did!
A thick, heavy gate crashed down to replace the laser defense grid. If you hadn’t gotten out when you did, then you would've been trapped in there with the rest of your treasure!
But now wasn’t the time to relax. There were reinforcements on the way, and you had roughly an hour or so to hand the orb off and plant the stolen goods in the Forbidden City.
“Please tell me that you aren’t on the wrong side of that fence…” Araña said.
“I’m out. Headed to you now.” you reported. “Keep that engine warm for me.”
