The forest was serene and calm, much like the forest that Verac was in for so long. There was no signs of beastmen nor was there a mushroom belonging to the greenskin. The forest floor was filled with twigs, meaning that the peasants of this area for some reason never came here to forage for such goods.
That was very odd, Lucian reasoned, for what would keep what was once his people from scouting this place out for such lifelines. Even the threat of bandits would only last a few days until the bandits informed the lords who were all too eager to try out their blade on flesh.
Lucian will count his blessings that the forest tops were high in the air. Not yet even after an hour of searching did he need to dismount his beast. Maybe it was a sign that the Grail Shrine was nearby, that the Lady blessed the area so that her Knights did not need to dishonor themselves in search of her monument.
During his walk Lucian’s mind wandered back to the peasant. It was becoming more and more clear with every step that nightshade made that he was indeed no bandit. While there could always be a chance of ambush, especially in a place as thick with foliage as this, the fools would have surely sunken their fangs into Lucian within the last half hour instead of waiting this long.
It was then that he caught sight of something. Nightshade did not need urging as the beast knew that Lucian wanted to look at what it too noticed. When Lucian gazed upon it he wondered if the forest was indeed playing him now.
Before him was a cow. The livestock calmly ate the leaves of some bushes. It did not care that Lucian had found it, only that the leaves it was eating were surely delicious.
Could it be the peasants for being so far away? Indeed the beast would have returned close to home like this one when it was easily routed by forest fay. As Lucian watched the beast begin to move he wondered if the story was still indeed true or somebody had simply lost their cow in the forest.
Or, perhaps, something further was amidst.
>Grab the cow and return it
>Follow the cow
>Leave the cow
>Kill the cow.
