As he looked upon her Lucian did not really care for her looks. They were in a sense charming to the Young Knight but the unearthly beauty of the Damsel had caused him to feel others were simply not comparable. Beyond all of this though…
“Lady Emelina,” The young man said as he gave a somewhat childish smile, “would you be able to help teach me to read and write?”
He could see it within her eyes. Whatever she was planning before this moment had come to a sudden stop before it could even leave the stables. She blinked once, then twice, each of them without saying a single word as she focused on how to properly respond to the request made by a Peasant Knight.
“My Uncle… he is helping you right?” She said with hesitation.
“He is doing his best.” Lucian claimed as he shook his head, “But he’s not very good at it. I swear that Adok is teaching me Dwarfen by mistake.”
“He is teaching you the language of the Dwarfs?” She said with a good bit of confusion now lacing her words.
Lucian gave a nod as he took out a small parchment book that was bound with iron nails. As if confirming it was not made by human hands, the face of a Dwarf was settled on the front. Lucian opened the pages and he displayed to her rows upon rows of runes that Lucian had to inscribe with a quill.
“These do not look like letters.” Lucian said as he pointed a finger at them, “Adok said something about them being a good base to know, but I don’t think it is.”
“Why do you not tell him its wrong?”
Lucian gave a shrug, “Its all good to know, I think. If you look here you can see that my quill is getting more steady because of it.”
Lady Emelina’s eyes stiffened as she grabbed the booklet from Lucian’s hands, “If he keeps you writing like this your script will be blocks. No elegance! I shall train you where my uncle failed, when I can.”
“Th-thats great!” Lucian felt his heart lighten upon the declaration, “Can we get started now?”
He saw the hesitation within the eyes of the lady, but they quickly stiffened, “Yes, now lets first figure out how you handle a quill…”
