The rocks came upon you sooner than you thought, even so far from shore they haphazardly dotted the silver horizon of sea spray and foam like disfigured teeth, the surge of currents was strong enough for you to feel underfoot and with what strength that remained to you proved to allow more than adjust yourself to its pull to avoid black crags and jagged rocks, despite your efforts and the still open water you found yourself suffering scratches and scrapes against the occasional rock small things but an easy price for dry land. Then dread filled your gut as rolling waves crashed into silver foam and sharp black rock ahead of you, you had thought this any easy return but had found violent nature in its place.
With looming horror you felt the deepness of the open sea rapidly disperse as you were pulled closer daggered shore without control, a jagged spire of a rock was the to greet you, it almost leered menacing as you half rolled, half swam off its course only for some sharp rock below to scratch long and hard across your leg for the effort, before you could recover you collided with a smaller squat rock that sent ribbons of pain across your stomach, you scrambled for purchase through pain and fear but you were pulled too strongly by the water to gain lasting purchase, you felt skin tear and nail's crack briefly and felt bruises blossoming as blindly hands and legs were smashed over lesser rocks you could not see, no breakage to yourself were a forgotten blessing to you as your back was lashed against a rock that might as well have been a shortsword and hot bloody pain told you blood seeped from its marks.
You regretted not resting, not waiting for the break of day, for a lesser tide so that this might have been easier, more foreseen so that death would not claim you in its most violent fashion against the rocks, if you died here you wondered if anyone, even the girl would be able to see you again in such a violent place and if they did would you even be recognisable? It was more than ignoble to die to such an end and so close to safety, it was unfair, wrong even for you to die here like some common fool after all you had seen and done.
But life was unfair you knew and only by mortal whim and power was fairness earned, the simple fact grieved you to remember.
With a sudden jolt you felt sweet relief as your progress was halted, the current was strong enough to feel yourself lifted and pulled by unseen tides but Crabs claw had halted your progress having been slammed between two rocks and you thought a prayer to the stranger or whatever god might have blessed you with this reprieve, your arms burned and your breath was short at the exertion it took but you pulled yourself close to Crab’s claw and then onto steadfast purchase of the rock it clung to.
