Even if the short-term food issue is solved, there’s the always present chance of a disruption to food supplies that could once again plunge Freeside into anarchy.
With the Courier busy stemming the literal bleeding from the Mojave’s biggest population center, he sends Cass to talk to Westside talk to the “independent republic” north of Vegas.
Unlike just about every other region in the Mojave, the courier spent little time there, aside from his forays into The Thorn and his use of Mick and Ralph’s. This makes it much more difficult to use the Courier’s reputation as currency, but Cass was sent out for a reason.
Cass is first toured around the farms by Clayton and Tom Anderson, showcasing the impressive irrigation system and fairly deep stores of product. She’s then shown the defenses of the Westside militia, though she assumes this is more of a show of force than anything.
Lastly, Cass is invited to a banquet hosted by the Co-op and even if it’s a show of abundance, she’s still greatly impressed. Just about any liquor she could want, fresh produce of all kinds, Brahmin steak, gecko steak, bread and even a delicious honey mess to finish off the night. Sent to bed drunk and happy, Cass wakes up the next morning knowing she played right into Westside’s hands.
During the course of her negotiations, the Westside leadership is refreshingly fair and straightforward.
They wish to remain independent
They are willing to sell food to Freeside at slight below market price if regular patrols are deployed from Westside to Jacobstown and Westside to Camp McCarran area.
Willing to sell surplus of crops to Freeside for 30,000 caps. Estimated to feed 10,000 people.
Aside from that, Westside is willing to engage in further economic, military and political cooperation. Feeling satisfied Cass bids them farewell and heads south to wrangle some caravans.
