>>5744960Sarcasm. You’re not too used seeing it coming from inferiors. “No, of course not. I like to meet many people from various backgrounds. I’m new on the planet, so I don’t know how to…” You nudge yourself around a bit. “Reply…? To most things.”
She taps your arm. “You’ll get used to it, Omni-man.”
You tap your cup a few times. “Where’d you last go?”
“Ukraine, crazy war out there huh? I did a report on how it affected the Roma people.”
“I… see.”
“Yeah, it’s… not the finest conversation piece.” She says. “Let’s change the subject. What movies do you like?”
“Movies?” You say. The last movie you watched was the latest Viltrumite propaganda. A bit of a stale one. “I haven’t seen any yet.”
“How long have you been here?!” She says, surprised.
“Around a week?” You reply.
Her eyes widen in even more surprise. “A week?!”
A silence fills the room. “Am I the first human you meet? I mean, Superman is a human, but…”
“I did meet the Justice League.”
“Damn.” She swallows the last bite of one of the donuts. “Mind if I get my pen and paper? I’m talking to a real hotshot right now.”
“Sure.”
“I was joking.” She says. A silence fills the room, you break the ice by smiling a broad smile, and she laughs a little bit. “So.” She says, recovering from the small outburst. “What are you gonna do here now? You’re gonna get a job? Become a superhero?”
You hadn’t thought of it. Surely you’d need a façade while in this world, something that you’re doing when you’re not out there strengthening your position on the planet. You tap your half empty coffee cup again. You have been reading many books lately, sometimes, you even took a small tablet and wrote a few words to try your hand at writing English. It wasn’t too bad.
>”I’d like to write… about my home planet. I think there’s a lot I can tell people about it.”>”I think I’d like to be a superhero full time. Fight the good fight.”>”I’m not sure yet, actually.”
