Lucian did as he was told and guided them to the Mausoleum that was dedicated to the Lady’s Knight. The two of them walked in without their escorts as to withhold the sight of such a travesty against all who were present.
They were there for fifteen minutes. The outside was so quiet that not even Adok felt it right to speak any words about the happenings to Lucian just yet.
As they walked out the faces of the men were drained of life. Their shoulders, while not slumped, did not have the same fervor they once had. Lucian had seen such a face on a cousin who had been told their sister and child did not survive childbirth.
“It is as the Squire says.” Duke Guion announced as he looked upon his warriors, “The corpse of Osmont the Brave has been stolen.”
Lucian knew this fact yet hearing it still caused his heart to be filled with anguish as it was said aloud. In truth Lucian wanted to believe that what he was witnessing was false but he had cared for too many of the corpses to see otherwise now. The corpse was gone.
“Errants.” The Duke of Bastonne barked at those in the rear most of those present, “Inform your fellows of this matter. Search every hovel, carriage, and speck of grass for Osmont the Brave. Great honor shall come to whoever finds it!”
As sudden as they arrived the Knights were off. Each of them having the speed of a beast in flight. Such was their desire for both glory, to carry out an order, and to right the wrong that had been done to all of them.
“Squire Lucian, take us back to the site of the murder. Take us through everything you had discovered before our arrival.” Duke Guion ordered as Duke Moriset simply kept his tongue for the time being.
“Yes my Lords.” Lucian gave a bow before hurriedly walking to the site that was desired.
