“You still haven’t explained what a ‘Hunter’s Moon’ is supposed to do. Is there anything that I have to help her with?” you asked.
“You must understand something, first.” Mr. Knight began. “Khonshu’s purpose for her is to correct my failings and carry out his original mission. The first thing he would do is use her to kill Reese. He hates the thought of me associating with vampires and other creatures of the night.”
Cindy looked thoughtful for a moment, before scribbling in her notebook and showing it to him.
“Your parents introduced you to Morbius?” he asked. Cindy nodded. “Ms. Moon, it would appear that you were being simultaneously influenced by both Khonshu and his cult. Both parties were working towards separate goals, and as such, they imparted different values.”
She tilted her head in confusion.
“Khonshu gave you strength and agility beyond what is normal, along with the righteous heart of a warrior. The cult, however, taught you how to be compassionate to those that you were meant to kill without hesitation.” Mr. Knight explained. “You don’t need me to tell you what you’re meant to do. You already know it.” he claimed.
Cindy flipped through her notebook, stopped somewhere in the middle and showed it to everyone in the room. It was a fairly well drawn picture of her and B-Negative holding hands. Her finger traced his face, and Cindy smiled sadly as she gazed down at the page.
Marc nodded slowly. “Not all vampires, or creatures of the night, are evil. It is possible for us to co-exist. I know this now.” he said, running a gloved hand over the page. “Khonshu wants his butcher, but I think you’re meant to be something more. A new breed of acolyte that he himself has yet to realize how desperately he needs.”
He took her hands into his, and she visibly flinched. Cindy looked up to meet his eyes, and she found them to be steely and unwavering.
“You do what you believe is right. Neither of us has the right to guide your hand.” he continued. “Become a fist when you need to be firm and unyielding. Become an open hand when others need support. And learn to know the difference. I need you to teach him that there is another way.” he said, pointing at Khonshu. The bird idol didn’t move. It didn’t even stir.
Cindy still looked a bit overwhelmed and frightened, but after a minute, she inhaled deeply and gripped Marc’s hands. She gave him a resolute nod.
“A supernatural diplomat without a voice.” Matt observed, a smirk forming on his face. “It’s almost poetic.”
You had to agree. You were particularly grateful that Marc was trying to convince her to carve her own path. It raised your opinion of him slightly.
“Out of curiosity,” you said, interrupting their touching moment. “What’s Khonshu’s rule on killing?”
