Both of you flinch when the male researcher nearly snaps his neck with how fast he swerved to look at you. "Hm? What's up?"
You hesitantly lower your shades to reveal your pink eyes. "We can help answer that."
The female researcher sighs in relief. "Oh thank god. Some actual subjects to research."
"Quite. Tell us, how does it work?"
The two of you sit down on the free side of the booth. "Well, we don't quite know the mechanisms." "But I've had powers for as long as I can remember. Benjamin here had his for a week or so."
"We can tell you," "In exchange for you telling us how these work."
You place the HELIOS SEEKER and the MYSTERY BOX onto the table.
The female researcher grabs them and pulls them over so she can study them. The male researcher nods, "Sure, sure. A fair exchange."
"For me, at least, my body is simply a conduit." You point your finger towards a glass on the table. It easily floats an inch or two off the table with your telekinesis. "It's like straining a muscle in my body." You lower the glass down.
"From my own personal experience, my theory is that it involves neurotransmitters in the brain." Benjamin taps the side of his skull. "Every SHIFTer I've seen reports some level of mental degradation when using their powers."
"We know about the mental strain but I somehow doubt it's that simple."
"Well, think about it. Our eyes have been altered by becoming SHIFTers. Eye color is determined by melanin so a biological explanation could be worth looking into."
"Sure, that might explain the eye color shifts. Could you explain more about the neurotransmitter theory? How can that explain reality itself being shifted? Like the telekinesis your friend showed?"
"Well," You chime in. "A-Energy is how anomalies alter the world and it's produced from them. It's a chemical they produce. It could be a mutative substance that alters brain chemistry. Hell, anomalies are probably all brain chemicals that somehow become physical."

"Anomalies can't be fully explained," Benjamin adds on. "yet the brain has to be the answer. Certain drugs have been known to improve SHIFTer abilities and all are hallucinogens or psychoactives."
"If it's not a specific neurotransmitter, it involves the receptors themselves. I'd suggest studying the dopamine or serotonin receptions of SHIFTer brains. You'd likely find that they're able to receive levels of said brain chemicals that could fry non-anomalous brains."
