“And that would be?” You question.
“Well, first I should start at the beginning. His exact location in the city was discovered by the Inquisition when someone made a report that a foreigner was looking for some sort of slave seller in the marketplace.”
“But slavery has been outlawed for centuries?”
“Exactly, it means he’s probably new and still figuring things out about this world. We’re lucky most of the people thought he was just an eccentric merchant from the Free States instead of panicking at an obvious Stranger.”
“So this man gets brought to our world and his first instinct is to look for a slave?! What sort of barbaric culture does he come from?”
“Here’s the kicker, slavery is illegal on Earth too. Means we’re dealing with a real piece of work here.”
“And you know this how?”
“Ah,” he stutters, “Guess when you’re in the business for long enough you pick up a few things.”
“I see, I suppose that means you do have some knowledge of value you may be able to instruct me on. That is acceptable.”
“Sure, anyways,” he turns a corner into a part of the city you’ve never ventured into before, a poor and cramped part, “I figured out the reason why during our scuffle. Looks like he has some sort of magic brand on his right hand that allows him to control people.”
“Magic to control people? That isn’t exactly something magic can do, I’ve studied it for years.”
“It’s his Cheat Skill, has to be, and Cheat Skills don’t have to make sense.”
You silently allow him to continue as you leap over a large and filthy puddle.
“I got caught off guard when some civilians with the same brand started charging me, must have been hit there.”
“And he got away in the confusion?”
“Yeah, then I decided to pick up you for backup.”
“Wait! You mean to say I was waiting at the station while all of this was happening?! Why? I could have assisted you! Do you think me incapable?!”
