“Excuse me, I should probably deal with this.” you said, stepping away for a moment.
Everyone turned and watched as you walked towards the bathroom, pulled out your phone and returned Angela's call. Before you even had a chance to close the door behind you, she picked up the phone.
“Hey, Ang. Long time no-”
“When exactly were you gonna tell me that you recruited my aunt to your little mercenary team?” she insisted.
“Uhhhh-”
“The thirteen year old kid!”
“You're gonna have to be more specific.”
Angela scoffed.
“Are there more than these two!?”
“These two”? Was she talking about the Thief Girls?
“Hold on. There are only two kids that I've recently taken under my wing, and neither of them are old enough to be your aunt.” you replied.
Angela let out a dry laugh, a bit of heat creeping into her voice.
“Normally, that'd be the case. But, guess what? Turns out my uncle had a little sister that he never told me about, and she's been living in Las Vegas this whole time.”
You paused, thought about it for a moment, and imagined both girls standing side by side with Angela. And only one of them bore any kind of resemblance to her. Then, it finally hit you.
“Benga's your aunt!?”
That must mean that Angela's grandma's been getting busy in her old age. You shuddered at the thought.
“Her government name is Ava Ayala. Her friend was trickier to pin down, but I managed to pull up a file for an ‘Anya Corazon’.”
You heard someone cursing in Spanish in the background, and you assumed that the newly named Anya wasn't too happy about having her government name spoken over an unsecure line. At least now you had something other than a codename to refer to them as.
“Wait, how did you even find out about them?” you asked.
“Because they broke into my apartment last night trying to hack into my FBI database!” Angie exclaimed. “Ava spilled the beans when I caught her. Said that she's been keeping tabs on me.”
That sounded like a needlessly risky move from them. You wondered if this had something to do with the “Tandy Bowen” case.
What will you say?
>”And? Did they find anything juicy on there?”
>”Hold on. I'm heading over to pick them up.”
>”I didn't tell them to break into your home, if that's what you're thinking. I thought they knew better than to pick a fight with a superhero.”
>”Sounds like a happy family reunion to me.”
>”Could you put them on the phone?”
>”If it makes you feel any better, they were entrusted to me by their previous guardian, and this is only their first mission. I'm trying to keep them out of any unnecessary danger, if at all possible.”
>Write-in.
