>>5972545“Maybe? It sure doesn’t talk to me I can tell you that but,” she has to think for a second, making a weird face as she does so, “I never knew how to use a sword before coming here but I can wield this one like a pro and whenever I’m in a fight I feel more comfortable than I thought I’d be. Does that count?”
“More than enough. It’s probably exerting some influence on you but chances are it isn’t doing so with intelligence, it’s just how the sword functions. I might have bonded with you and that’s why it had a negative reaction to Lorina here. Do tell someone with the inquisition if this changes.”
“Um, alright. Does that mean-”
“I don’t mean anything yet, this interrogation is still ongoing,” Asher says to which Midori nods, “Now, can you tell me exactly how you arrived in this world?”
“Sure, it’s rather cliche I think but I got hit by a truck while running to school since I was late for my exams. I violate one crossing walk and next thing I know I’m in a grotto with a sword sticking from a stone. It was kind of awesome though!” What’s a truck?
“I’m sure it was, what did you do next?”
“Nothing special I don’t think, I wasn’t that hungry since I still had my toast in my mouth but I ended up pulling out the sword and wandering to the nearest town I could find. I also killed some wolf monsters things on the way there too. I ended up using them as proof I could make it as an adventurer to the guild.”
“Do you have an adventurer’s card by any chance?” You end up asking, It would be the best way to ensure her identity.”
“Oh, yeah right here!” As she says this she holds out her little card with both hands like she was holding out a sword. A strange gesture but you assume it’s meant to be a sign of respect or something. The card itself is rather standard, even with its subtle off-white coloring and watermark, it denotes her specialties and abilities along with her name and biological information. There’s even a small black-and-white photo in the corner. Photography is another recent fad of nobility, a rather nice one in your opinion.
Eventually, you pass the card to Asher and he raises an eyebrow, “You’re going to have to change this,” He says as he hands the card back.
“What, why?”
“Unless you want to have a chat with every other inquisitor who sees a Japanese name on the guild registry, I’d be best if you went by something else in public.”
“You’re saying I should change my name?” The inquisitor nods, “To what exactly?”
“If you took any English classes back in school just change it to whatever name you chose then.”
“Oh, we did that in elementary! I went by Marie because I thought it sounded pretty!”
“That’ll work, just use Smith or something for your last name.”
“I’ll think of something good, don’t worry!” Midori, or Marie, says with a determined face.
