“I’m sorry what is this about some serial killer?” Asher presses.
Cathy affixes him a haughty look, “According to the common rabble a figure in black has been prowling the city at night and kidnapping those unlucky enough to get in his way.”
“And where is this taking place?” Asher continues.
Catherine looks around for a few seconds, clearly having not paid enough attention to the rumor, “I-i think it was near the harbor.” Maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t go out for a walk last night.
“Good to know, I live there.”
“A-ah,” The marquess coughs, “Well you should know there’s currently no real evidence to these claims of a killer prowling our streets. Though I admit the disappearances are quite real, but do trust we have men on the case!”
“Regardless, it’s a good piece of info,” Asher says before sitting back in his chair.
There’s a lull in the conversation and just when it starts to get a bit awkward a maid walks in and informs you that Ishbel has set up her telescope atop one of the Hyland castle’s turrets. You dismiss both Lord and Lady Hyland to follow the maid, Cathy walking right beside you. The walk isn’t exactly long but there sure are plenty of stairs, like everything in this city. Eventually, you reach what seems to be one of the tallest points of the castle, near the lake, and see a purple-haired maid adjusting a complex device. She currently seems to be adjusting a few nobs as she looks through the telescope.
“Just a-” a yawn, “moment,” the maid calls out. Not trying to be rude or anything you do as you’re told while shuffling awkwardly. A maid shouldn’t have the authority to tell you what to do… But you also don’t know how to work a telescope. “Right there,” There's a pause as she breathes deeply, “You should be able to,” Another yawn, “See the island if you place your eye near the glass.”
“Ishbel, you need to step away for us to use it,” Catherine says.
“Oh… Right,” It takes a second but she does eventually move out of the way. She has large bags under her eyes, “Goodnight everyone,” the maid says as she goes and sits down against the turret walls. She’s out in an instant.
“Is she, uh, okay?” Marie asks.
“Oh, she’s fine. We have her on nightshifts so she’s usually asleep right now,” Catherine waves off the concern, “Now Lorina, care to do the honors.”
