Navigating through your lively birthday party, you approach your friends within the J.P. Wynne faculty. Laughter and chatter fill the air as you make your way to them. Mrs. Harriet, the elderly teacher who graciously covered your class while you were taking a detour, greets you with a warm smile. "Happy birthday, Walt!"
"Thanks," you say, nervously chuckling. "Sorry for being late to my own party." DAVID LAYMAN, a fellow chemistry teacher in your building, heartily laughs. Looks like he's had a few drinks already.
"Better late than never! You've been on a roll with being tardy today, huh?" Oh man. You almost forgot about this morning.
"I actually wanted to apologize to you all for that—"
"Oh, don't worry about it," Mrs. Harriet interrupts. "We managed just fine." David nods at this.
"Exactly. Birthdays are meant to be celebrated, Walt. Don't even trip," he starts giggling. "Trip. Antwan taught me that. It means, don't even worry! Isn't that something?"
"Yes, David, your cultural appropriation is something." You recognize that voice. It's MAE HEYWOOD, another science teacher. She used to head a division at 3M before retiring early and deciding to work as a teacher. She's never been your favorite person to talk to. She wears a less-than-pleased expression, expressing her discontent.
"Hello, Mae," you greet her. She gives you a look and decides speaking to you isn't worth it. She walks off to get another drink.
Despite Mae's reaction, the overall sentiment among the faculty appears forgiving. Even Carmen seems to have forgiven you, currently talking to Skyler and Marie. What now?
