She sniffed at Elsa once more and floated towards Sophie without warning. The woman tried to jump back, but the Terrible Eye had already grabbed her by the face and was now peering into it, as if she were appraising a sculpture.
“Hm. Yes. I can feel it. Something quite sinister has latched onto her soul. Like a parasite that seeks to drain her spirit from the inside out. Whatever creature formed this contract is powerful indeed…”
Sophie muttered something about “personal space”, but her words were lost in the mad whispers of the Terrible Eye. Flint gave you a look and used his index finger to trace a circle around his temple.
“There is something unusual about you, little dove. You have piqued my interest. I will do you the honor of peering into the very depths of your soul. All you need do is lay yourself bare, and open your mind.”
Despite the Terrible Eye’s soft spoken insistence, Sophie’s eyes were wide with fright as they met the four unblinking eyes of her captor.
She swallowed hard.
“I, uh…don’t know how comfortable I am doing that.”
“We need to see that contract, Soph.”
Sophie met Black Cat’s imploring gaze for a moment, and then glanced at you. You nodded to her, and she gasped slightly as the Terrible Eye’s face drew ever closer.
“Alright, I’m open! I’m open! Just…gimme some space!”
The Terrible Eye back off immediately floating to the other side of the room and landing beside Elsa.
“Step into the circle. But I caution you all, do not dare break it, under any circumstances.”
Everyone cautiously nodded their agreement and took a step back. Everyone except Sophie, that is. Elsa led her into the middle of the circle, being careful not to break it or trip over the candles.
Meanwhile, the Terrible Eye thrust towards the door, and a faint purple glow emanated from her hands. All the furniture that had once barred the door were now rising up into the air and floating back over to rest in front of it.
“Goosefoot, bittercress and crabgrass…bar the door and let none pass…!”
The words to her short spell baffled you somewhat. You could faintly hear Felicia snickering in the corner somewhere. But as soon as that was done, The Terrible Eye whirled towards the magic circle and started to levitate towards the ceiling.
“Great Agamotto, I beseech thee! Grant unto me wisdom! Open mine eyes so that they might puncture the shadowy depths of the dark sorceries shrouding this woman’s soul!”
The longer she spoke, the more she rose in volume, and the larger the candle flames became. The ones closest to the circle turned blue and shot up to form a barrier between you and Sophie, who was looking around frantically.
The candles on the outer areas of the bar turned green, illuminating the entire room in a sickly, sinister sort of light.
