For the remainder of your time here, you really wanted to try and get a grasp on your new fire powers. And your first order of business was figuring out how to put them out in the first place. Your results in that endeavor were…less than ideal, to say the least.
You just kept waving the flaming sword around, trying to extinguish it like you had your own hands in the car before. But for some reason, you couldn’t quite get it to stop spreading. Dropping it and stomping it out wasn’t an option either, since your environment was very flammable, and the distance between here and the beach had greatly increased after your little afternoon drive.
Lucky for you, that distance didn’t mean anything to Van, who simply teleported the flaming sword out of your hands and into the crashing waves rolling across the horizon.
The two of you breathed a sigh of relief, and you made a mental note not to do that again when surrounded by so much flammable material. At the very least, your past experience with the explosive Mark gave you a bit of an advantage when it came to learning how to summon and banish the flames. There weren’t a whole lot of things to experiment with here, but you felt that your new powers had less to do with explosions and more to do with melting through whatever you spread them to.
You tried casting fireballs and shooting a concentrated jet of flame to see if you’d received any ranged capabilities from your mutation, but you only succeeded in intensifying the flames that danced along your arms.
Although, there was an interesting interaction where the flames emanating from your glowing fists were highly concentrated. Like a superheated-welding torch shaped like a small blade. You tried to maintain it or replicate the effect, but you couldn’t quite get the hang of it.
At some point during your training, the flames had crawled up your arms, up to our shoulders, and even around your back. They barely felt hot to you, and you wondered if you had somehow become more fireproof, or your immunity only extended to this specific type of flame.
There was a lot of weird science at work here, and you didn’t understand a lick of it. Van didn’t have a whole lot to contribute here, and she was more or less waiting for you to finish so that the two of you could leave. She admitted to spotting more wildlife in the area while you were distracted, but she didn’t think that any of them were inherently dangerous.
