For hours they did not stop and for that time they did not talk. Most likely it was because of the stranger that was with them, tying up the mouth of both Adok and the Skink. Lucian could not help but notice the later was using one of his eyes to independently look upon them and keep an eye upon the peasant who was riding with Lucian.
It was not subtle and Lucian knew the Lizard was wise enough to be just that. Was he acting like this because of his customs or that hint of distrust that was given earlier?
“Sir Knight, can you tell me your name?” The Peasant finally asked after what was hours worth of road. Maybe he held his tongue because of the pain or maybe it was because he simply gained the confidence to ask.
“I am Lucian of Verac.” Declared the Black Knight with sterness.
“You… you would be Lucian the Durand!” The Peasant realized within an instant as he must have glowed with excitement. Lucian did not look at him and instead continued his looking towards the roads before him.
“Indeed I am.” The Knight responded.
“You are the slayer of the Ork Warlord!”
“I am only one of two who slayed the creature.” Lucian corrected the Peasant from embellishing his story, “And even that is in dispute at the moment.”
“Yes, I have heard, Sir Gillot was he. The man who tried to steal your kill at the final moments of a long fight.” The Peasant said in a clear attempt to try and egg Lucian on. To get on his good side.
“I do wonder in my mind if I could slay such a creature myself.” He gave words of admittance, “What the facts that happened was that he helped me slay the Warlord of the greenskins. If I had the ability to slay it, is irrelevant now.”
“Those are quite humble words, my Lord.”
The Knight could not help but be taken aback by those words. He should not have paid such credence to them but it struck a chord within his very heart. He was a man from humble beginnings who is now trying to do great things. He had not even consider that he’s yet to let his position go to his head.
But then it was the cooler head prevails.
