So I was looking at the Highfleet FEAR FORCE FAITH WEALTH ORDER KINDNESS stats, I came up with some of my own faction attributes. Yes I have seen the Hofstede cringe cultural dimensions theory power distance risk aversion individualism/collectivism etc etc I consider it to be ULTRA-CRINGE I will not be using it. The VAMPIRE SORCERY economists love chanting mantras about institutions, probably there should be some tech research into governance technology ie institutions, but I am not sure if I want the Stellaris style governments (have not played the game or experienced it though)
My faction attribute ideas:
Memory
civilisational memory historiography and tradition. Faction with high Memory remembers past events but might be stagnant / bound to rituals or obscure conventions and social rigidities. Low Memory society better R&D innovation, or greater willingness for diplomacy forgiveness of transgressions / pragmatism (think OPPOSITE of Warhammer Dwarf Book Of Grudges etc) Maybe Memory can be negative, you get a post-Truth ChatGPT propaganda hallucination false memory machine nonsense society hehe, a risk of overreliance upon too much AI LLMs
Order
Maybe call this Cohesion or Hierarchy? It represents unity and homogeneity within the faction, can be ethnic religious tribal groupings etc or even economic conglomerates / competition vs collusion. High Order society seeks out external enemies, more warlike, better at implementing directives executing commands faster, but vulnerable to institutional fragility / no counterculture. Low order society readily absorbs and adapts new incoming converts, but can be mired in betrayal schisms or infighting / prejudice etc. I like this mechanic because it might act against rapid Empire overexpansion (if absorbing / subjugating too many vassals, weakens internal cohesion etc perhaps revolt). Also this Order / cohesion measure is NOT a measure of autocracy, it is more just homogeneity of values
Ideology
Might call this Abstraction, or even better Moral Universalism it is a measure of how much the faction believes their own beliefs apply to others. So high Ideology/Universalism wants to evangelise and convert all others to their moral principles it is expansionist whilst low Ideology/Universalism might be isolationist segregationist and try to hide in a remote place etc. Also I think this might also be an oblique measure of pragmatism the deontological means ends political thing etc.
