Getting your hands on a set of A.I.M. uniforms was…surprisingly easy. All you had to do was break into some private lockers and slip it over your current uniform. It was “one size fits all”, so you didn’t have to worry about it being too big or too small. Once that was settled, you had Prowler use one of his drones to get set up for the next part of your plan.

On one of the lower levels, there were four A.I.M. scientists running tests on a deactivated synthezoid. Particularly, it was the body of Jim Hammond, the first Human Torch. Some of them were visibly bothered by the concerning alerts that they’d overheard from their superiors, but they received explicit orders to remain where they were and protect the specimen. And they were doing a good job of keeping calm under pressure, considering the circumstances. That was, until the lights went out.

Some of them panicked, and began fumbling around for a flashlight. But they needn’t have waited long, because as expected, the backup generators kicked in and their surroundings became bathed in crimson light.

The scientists looked around then, taking a quick count of their number, and nodding once they were able to confirm that the amount of available scientists in the room had remained the same. There didn’t appear to be any visible threat to them that they could detect. The power outage must’ve been caused by whatever was going on in the upper levels.

And you were convinced to let them believe that, so long as they didn’t notice the scientists that you’d just bound and gagged a few seconds ago. Black Cat was still skulking around in the shadows, unable to hide her natural curves, even with the baggy clothing of the A.I.M. scientists. And it’d be hard to explain how one of the scientists suddenly filled out their uniform. She’d have to meet up with you later.

“This is crazy. We should’ve moved the synthezoid to a safer location ages ago!” Prowler protested, his helmet’s voice synthesizer masking his identity.

“Orders are orders. They’ll have our heads if we disobey the Scientist Supreme AND let something happen to the specimen.” argued one of the remaining A.I.M. scientists.

“And what do you think will happen if we just sit here and let someone come and steal the specimen from us? Show some initiative for God’s sake!” you said.

One of the other scientists scoffed derisively at you. “You seriously still believe in God? How’d a guy like you even make it to this level?”

“And you don’t? We literally had one flying over our heads for years before he returned to Asgard.” you countered.

“Not Gods. They’re just aliens from another dimension. I’m surprised you don’t know that.”

“We can talk theology later. Right now, we’ve got a decision to make.” Prowler interrupted.

Araña shrugged slightly, looking mildly uncomfortable. “Roberto’s supposedly been building something with the self-learning A.I. that he’s been developing in his museum. I’m not exactly sure what it is, but I think Gloria might.”

“Would we be overstepping our boundaries by entering this facility?” Ana asked.

Araña made a thoughtful noise and scratched the side of her head. “This isn’t anywhere near his physical territory. Their facility shouldn’t extend this far out. So I don’t think it would technically be against the rules?”

“I’m hearing a lot of ‘maybes’ in there.” you said, turning her own words back around on her.

“I can’t reach Gloria from here.” Benga announced, holding Koa’s phone. “The signal’s fuzzy out here.”

Koa cursed in a language that you didn’t quite recognize and ran his hands through his hair.

Araña’s brows were knitted together in consternation, before a devious grin formed on her lips.

“Hey, Benga. What about Rollo’s cloaking devices?”

The other girl frowned at her. “What about them?”

“We can use them to disguise ourselves as A.I.M. scientists, go down there and grab the bot without raising any eyebrows!” Araña suggested.

“Except we don’t have any of Rollo’s devices.” Benga reminded her.

“So? Let’s go get some.”

Koa didn’t look at all pleased with the direction that this conversation was taking.
