The majority of Knights left with one Knight of the Realm standing guard as Lucian and Adok worked to put away the corpses that were strung about the garden. Said guard was silent in his vigil as Lucian gave prayers to the dead and began moving each of the corpses into the lower chambers where several dozen coffins were prepared and tables dedicated to examination laid.
It was a hard labor but the strength of Adok made most of it easily. The Dwarf, just like Lucian, was able to handle the corpses with ease and help him easily slip each of them in their alotted coffins.
As they were already examined and there was not time to clean up the bodies, each of the corpses were placed within a large wall that had a series of holes within it. Each of these holes had around them the etchings of preservation that channeled the power of Morr towards the corpses. It allowed corpses that degraded within days to last close to a month from Lucian’s own experienced.
Normally this function would only be used as a intermediary, to forestall a sudden spike in burials or give the Priests time to gather coin for said burial, but today it would be a stop gap until a proper ritual could be done to save their souls.
“Damned dirty work.” Adok complained as he shook his head, “Leaving the hold, never in my mind did I imagine helping umgi with their dead be so common.”
“Uh, sorry.” Lucian said meekly as he scratched the back of his neck.
To that the Dwarf gave a laugh, “No need to apologize for that! I got myself in this mess I can work through it.”
Lucian felt a little taken aback by such a declaration but shook his head at it, “I looked through the pockets of the Bastonne Priest and found his keys. We can start looking through their dorms to see if they left anything behind.”
“Your god does not frown upon looting the dead?” Adok asked with what was genuine speculation.
“He does, but as the books say, when it involves undead he does not care what happens as long as they are destroyed.”
