“Aren’t you glad that my memories are back, Vera?” You wiggle your eyebrows.
Vera averts her eyes with a tint of red on her face, she looks half-pissed, half glad. Liu feels like she’s missing a lot of context. You’ll continue your cheeky ways regardless.
“I don’t think she’s going to answer that.” Liu plays the arbiter role even if it’s wholly unnecessary. “Ask her something else.”
“I can talk for myself, Liu. Thank you.” Vera retorts with a lot of sass.
“What’s up with your hair? And your eyes? They weren’t like that before.” You recall them being different. Her eyes were pretty unique, and her hair was… not.
“I started wearing contacts so you wouldn’t recognize me. I couldn’t risk triggering your memories back at a bad time.” Vera answers with the truth. “And what’s wrong with my hair? It’s just longer.”
“It moves. It’s like it has a life on its own” You high-five one of her strays.
“It was like this when we met. Did you forget? Or didn’t really remember every single bit?” Vera doesn’t put too much importance to this.
“Is this some kind of magic?” Liu isn’t as brave to play with it.
“Don’t ask dumb questions.” Vera refuses to answer.
“I don’t think she knows, Liu.” You translate Vera’s squeaking.
“Ooh!” Liu thinks this is a sensible answer. “I hope you get better.”
“I-I’m not sick! It’s the old family curse that has run through generations and generations.” Vera pouts. “I’m supposed to use a ponytail or something, but I don’t care if people find it odd.”
“...I hope you get better.” Liu doesn’t change her answer.
“I-It’s like having a tail! It’s no big deal.” Vera doesn’t want to worry any of you two.
“Like a rat?” You raise an eyebrow.
“...Liu, slap him.” Vera glares back.
“I-I don’t think it’s appropriate.” Liu refuses.
“Neither is what he said, but here we are, and we must act.” Vera wants to witness violence.
“So, you changed your appearance recently? Does that check out, Liu?” You ask.
“She always had her eyes closed, I didn’t think much of it.” Liu confesses she doesn’t look that different to her.
